TALK at Musgrove Studio, Maidment Theatre
reviewed by Sian Robertson 24 Jul 2010
Wincingly funny portrayal of blatant self-interest and petty-mindedness
Talk is a sadistically smooth satire of the interwoven lives of nine characters and they way they communicate ... Talk is the theme of the play – how words shape the world and the interactions that make up our lives. [more]

SWAN LAKE ON ICE at ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre
reviewed by Jacqueline Smith (New Zealand Herald) 23 Jul 2010
Russian classic gorgeous served on ice with twist
Tchaikovsky's Russian love triangle - the tale of Odette, Odile and Prince Siegfried - has toured the world for 135 years, and it seems it will never get old. [more]

TE KAUPOI at Hawkins Theatre, Papakura
reviewed by Janet McAllister (New Zealand Herald) 23 Jul 2010
Cheeky humour escapes from repressive and brutal nz police state
New Zealand has become a police state with no freedom of speech or elections, as virtual war has been declared by the Government against Maori activists. This is excitingly - possibly dangerous - inflammatory material, refreshingly original and daring for homegrown theatre. [more]

TE KAUPOI at Hawkins Theatre, Papakura

Power reduced by unrevealed motivations
It is rare to see NZ playwrights venture into an imaginary future. So I commend Whiti Hereaka for her bravery in crafting Te Kaupoi; an intriguing look at what is an almost credible prospect with regards to Aotearoa race relations. [more]

SWAN LAKE ON ICE at ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre

Spectacle serves the story
With each successive production, The Imperial Ice Stars under the direction of Tony Mercer continue to redefine the genre of theatrical ice dancing. Rejecting the large scale arena spectacular of competitive ice dancing, they have opted instead to adapt the classic ballets for a 15 metre square ice stage under the proscenium arch ... [more]

LALALUNA at Theatre Royal

Pure delight in finding the light
La La Luna is enchanting. And Mad. And funny. And magical. And enthralling! It transcends all ages and cultures. The audience, from the very young to the very old, was entranced and mesmerised by Wolfe Bowart’s amazing one-man show ... [more]

IDIOTS at Te Karanga Gallery
reviewed by Caoilinn Hughes 21 Jul 2010
It would be idiotic to miss it
Go to Te Karanga Gallery on K-Road to see Idiots; an hour of comedy scenes written by Nic Sampson which are unrelated to each other aside from being all generally brilliant. You pay what you think it’s worth. Only catch is, it’s priceless. [more]

THE YOUNG AND THE WITLESS IV at Fringe Bar, Cnr Cuba & Vivian
reviewed by Phoebe Smith (2) 20 Jul 2010
Unpredictable soap produces amusing absurdism
WIT’s season of improvised soap opera, The Young and the Witless IV, is going strong at the Fringe Bar on Wednesday nights. It attracts large and exuberant houses who are not disappointed as the improvisers deliver a compelling combination of narrative twists, character based gags and sardonic breakings of the fourth wall. LALALUNA at Isaac Theatre Royal

Everyday objects made magic with extraordinary skill
Physical theatre of this calibre comes rarely, so that when it does the magic is all the sweeter. The polish of international touring has in no way dulled the sheer fun and sparkle of the multi-talented Wolfe Bowart, whose charm has his audience captivated from the moment ... [more]

RANGI AND MAU’S AMAZING RACE at Air New Zealand Foyer, Aotea Centre
reviewed by Venus Stephens 18 Jul 2010
Meeting the Matariki challenge with tongue in cheek hyperbole
I gauge my receptivity of a performance for kids by how much I laugh – and the children laugh – during the show. If I get into snorting territory, well, the measure is self-explanatory. Rangi and Mau’s Amazing Race has me from the get go ... [more]
