GAS at Auckland Old Folks Association. 8 Gundry Street (off K' Road)
reviewed by Sian Robertson 18 Jun 2008
Ruthless laughter with compassion
The peeling ceiling and fluorescent tubes of the Auckland Old Folks’ Association provide an aptly drab atmosphere for a play set in a suburban Auckland petrol station struggling to meet its fiscal targets. The characters are similarly dilapidating. [more]

GAS at BATS
reviewed by Uther Dean (Salient) 27 Nov 2009
A joyous, energetic experiment
Trouble is brewing at a certain Fletcher Challenge (they still exist?!) petrol station in Auckand. The company is in financial strife and one of the stations is going to have to close, but manager Cameron (Toby Leach) has a plan or two. [more]

GATHERING CLOUDS at Opera House
reviewed by Deirdre Tarrant (Capital Times) 1 Apr 2009
The Pacific experience
Gathering Clouds deals with anger, frustration, conflict, late-night evictions, humour, slapstick, grace, lyricism, and strength. Ultimately these 10 dancers show us that there is a way forward. [more]

Bach goes nicely with Pacific Grace
Black Grace choreographer/director, Neil Ieremia, was provoked by the somewhat ill-judged report by academic Greg Clydesdale which questioned Pacific Islanders’ economic contribution to New Zealand. Clydesdale had further spurious claims about how to teach students what Bach’s music is all about. [more]

Energy, precision, athleticism and power
Neil Ieremia’s latest work for Black Grace is a triumph – lovingly crafted and danced with passion and commitment. Much has already been written and said about the catalyst for Gathering Clouds: Ieremia’s anger at claims made about Pacific Islanders and his desire to respond to those (false) claims through dance. Yet ... [more]

GATHERING CLOUDS at The Civic – THE EDGE®
reviewed by Bernadette Rae 7 Mar 2009
Beauty vies with puzzling choices
Neil Ieremia's new work, a response to Dr Greg Clydesdale's discussion paper and its negative and subsequently discredited conclusions on the impact of Pacific Island migration, is a mixed bag. [more]

GAVIN PUTS THINGS STRAIGHT at The Pumphouse, Takapuna
reviewed by Lexie Matheson 7 May 2011
Moments of pure magic, spontaneous laughter, bittersweet poignancy
It’s riddled with great lines – some character-driven, some just plain clever – and has a tightly structured dramatic narrative, both of which allow the production to glide between humour and pathos with a seamless ease. Saker has a remarkable feel for the vernacular and his considerable experience as a theatre practitioner is evidenced in the subtle shaping and angling of the numerous and varied vignettes to gain maximum theatrical and emotional impact. STAB at BATS
GENE POOL at BATS
reviewed by Laurie Atkinson (The Dominion Post) 18 Oct 2010
Clone machine gives birth to magical man
There’s a simplicity and limpid beauty in Gene Pool that has been rare or non-existent amongst the shows that have made up the STAB seasons of experimental theatre in the past few years. [more]

The premise has promise
Gene Pool, the first of the two 2010 STAB shows, is a marvel of technical accomplishment. Set, lights, sound, and performance all achieve a degree of excellence that surpass the thin material of the story. [more]

GENERATIONS at Gryphon
reviewed by John Smythe 10 Feb 2007
Well dug over ground
Presented as a work-in-progress, and part of an Masters in Theatre Arts (MTA) project,, Generations is a long way short of telling “a story covering 90 years and four generations of NZ soldiers at war from Gallipoli through to Iraq,” as asserted in the programme ... [more]
