HAIRY MACLARY at The Pumphouse, Takapuna - return season
reviewed by Joanna Page 23 Sep 2012
Captivating and utterly delightful
In through the door and off to our seats went me and my son to our first Tim Bray feat… It was Elliot’s first theatre experience and I had concerns. After all he’s not yet two. Would he be engaged and quiet for the hour? Would he scream the place down? Would we have to abandon the performance? I had nothing to worry about; it wouldn’t have mattered if he was two or eighty-two. [more]

HAMIL TOWN OF HORRORS at Gallagher Concert Chamber, Wel Academy of Performing Arts, Waikato University
reviewed by Gail Pittaway (Waikato Times) 5 Jul 2010
Surprisingly funny, impressively coherent
FUEL FESITVAL 2010 Hamil Town, 2025. Karapiro Dam has burst its banks and washed away the bridges, gardens and fountains and left the inhabitants of the once proud Fountain City stranded on opposite sides of the vast river, unable to trade or eat ... [more]

Hamlet (Gareth Reeves) & Gertrude (Rima te Wiata)
HAMLET at Court One
reviewed by Stephen Austin 9 May 2006
Mixed bag; much cut
Peter Evans has chosen to forego much of the political subtext inherent in the play and set it in a periodless theatrical workshop space, allowing his actors much free-reign over their characters and concentrating on the relationships central to the story. [more]

A sense of space and pace
It is too often forgotten that Shakespeare wrote entertainments. Thankfully, this production of Hamlet at Court Theatre is entertaining. [more]

HAMLET at Basement Theatre, Te Whaea National Dance & Drama Centre
reviewed by Michael Gilchrist 24 Jul 2011
A Hamlet for our times
Right from the start, as we descend into the bowels of Te Whaea, this stripped back story about a bright student returning home to some bewilderingly wayward family behaviour rings true. This is an unusually ambitious choice for a young director in training and the ambition is more than justified. [more]

A quirky Hamlet, but it grabs attention
Nearly every production of Hamlet is a curate’s egg: Melnaie Camp’s is no exception. Set in the bleak Basement Theatre with the audience seated in a single U-shaped row, the play has an unusual intimacy. [more]

An understanding simple and unschooled
In reviewing a faithful adaptation of any Shakespearean tragedy, without having so much as a basic grasp on Elizabethan vocabulary, one would expect a bewildering and foreign experience. I did, and for the first half-hour of Hamlet, that is exactly what I got. Curiously, this changed as the story progressed. [more]

HAMLET DIES AT THE END at BATS
reviewed by Hannah Smith 29 Jun 2011
Humour and heart
Hamlet Dies at the End is right up my alley, a light-hearted comedy following a community theatre class staging a production of Hamlet. Ego, passion, tears and trauma abound, as do cheeky observations that will be readily recognisable to any one who has ever been involved in amateur theatre. [more]

Stellar cast brings theatre story to amusing life
Community theatre groups are often seen as a microcosm of society, the members involved coming from all walks of life and often joining the group for reasons other than to perform on stage. It is this premise the Gavin McGibbon has taken for his latest play Hamlet Dies at the End, currently playing at Bats. [more]

HAMLET, PRINCE OF DENMARK at Brooklyn Community Centre
reviewed by Mary Anne Bourke 3 Dec 2006
Entertainment value off the charts
Call me a raver, but I do not expect to see a more enjoyable production of Hamlet as long as I live. Okay, Simon Vincent plays Hamlet, and it’s hard to think of a more perfect casting, but this Hamlet exceeds expectations. With a performance of extraordinary verve and intelligence, Vincent turns Hamlet inside out and shows us what he, both prince and player, can be. [more]
