LA VIE at Pacific Blue Festival Club
reviewed by Lynn Freeman (Capital Times) 27 Feb 2008
Wonderful acts
This is part-cabaret, part-burlesque, part circus and being designed for the late night audience, very naughty in places. [more]

LA VIE DANS UNE MARIONETTE at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave
reviewed by Glen Pickering 1 Mar 2013
World class New Zealand theatre
La Vie Dans Une Marionette is the simple and charming story of a reclusive concert pianist who lives alone in his one bedroom flat. His only companion is the moon who disappears each morning. One morning the pianist has a giant box delivered to his house. [more]

LADIES A PLATE at Stage Door, Doreen Doolan Mall, Jackson St
reviewed by Laurie Atkinson (The Dominion Post) 17 Oct 2009
Humour, sensuousness and empathy
Ladies a Plate is an entertaining 65 minute anthology about food, which means, as the prologue and epilogue tell us, it is really about love. [more]

Nutrition for the heart, mind and soul
If baking be an act of love, it comes in many flavours. Geraldine Brophy and her daughter Beatrice Joblin serve up 14 helpings in Ladies a Plate, enjoying a brief 4-show season at Petone’s ‘Stage Door’ (previously a cinema, I believe). [more]

LADIES FOR HIRE at Centrepoint
reviewed by John Ross 9 Nov 2009
Hits the spot
It’s well-crafted, has plenty of strong and amusing lines (some of them laugh-out-loud), and adequately differentiated characters, each with their own lesser stories. It moves along effectively, with sufficient incident and interesting twists. [more]

The ghost of Christmas present
In Quigan’s twelfth play for the theatre and the first since 2004’s watershed 30th anniversary season, there is harder social undercurrent. It’s a restless unkind world that intrudes via employment and health uncertainty, petty ambition, manipulation, dishonesty, bullying, and sociopathic (P-fuelled?) violence. [more]

LADY OF TEARS at Gryphon
reviewed by Jackson Coe 27 Feb 2008
Just terrible
Watching Lady of Tears was like being jumped by a masked assailant with horribly bad breath and really stinky armpits. The direction was horrendous, the script was lacking and the performances were wooden. It was utterly ghastly. [more]

LADY OF TEARS at Gryphon
reviewed by Kate Blackhurst (The Lumiere Reader) 27 Feb 2008
Downright odd
Billed as ‘a rather strange play written and directed by Dan Ashworth’, Lady of Tears doesn’t disappoint. [more]

LADY OF TEARS at Gryphon
reviewed by Ewen Coleman (The Dominion Post) 1 Mar 2008
Not just weird, but wonderful too
Whimsical and nonsensical, the play is an eclectic mix of Chekhovian dialogue, with absurdist, farce and science fiction theatre that all meld together surprisingly well. [more]

LADYFORCE QUATRE at The Auckland Performing Arts Centre: TAPAC
reviewed by Cat Gwynne 10 Oct 2008
Astounding onstage charisma
The curtain is open to reveal a contained box of darkness given by the frame of the stage. We hear sharp glitches of sound, their unsettling tone driving us into an anxious yet abstract dimension. As tension sets in, the darkness leans our curiosity towards a new yet familiar noise. [more]
