reviewed by Joanna Davies 25 May 2009
The spirit of great comedy is alive and kicking in NZ
It may be the International Comedy Festival but last night was New Zealand’s night. And what better way to wrap up the month’s laugh fest than with some awards? [more]

Packed with quality: Awards announced
Sky City has been the home of Last Laughs for many years now and what used to be very much an inner industry event has become a public showcase, and big. 750 seats of fans and practitioners alike have gathered tonight to find out who will take the New Zealand Comedy Industry's highest accolades; The Fred Award and Billy T Award. LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS at The Pumphouse, Takapuna
reviewed by Nik Smythe 19 Oct 2012
Real questions identified
As amusing as his hapless conduct is, Barney is, in effect, the straight man to the three successive, strongly comedic female characters, with each of whom he strives to reach beyond his staid existence in the hope of having a meaningfully spontaneous, unpredictable liaison, just once in his life. Simon's sexual revolution never simple
It is surprising that Neil Simon's vast repertoire is hardly ever staged in New Zealand. LAST POSTCARD FROM CUBA at Arc Cafe, High Street

Rambling discourse flattens intelligent research
If you have ever wanted to spend an evening with a depressed writer who is about to blow his brains out, this is the show for you. If, on the other hand, that sounds a tad grim, I must agree. Even though the depressive is Ernest Hemingway, and he has some damn good stories to tell, the cumulative effect has one wanting to pick up the on-stage rifle and hurry the job along. [more]

LATE LAUGHS (WELLINGTON) at San Francisco Bathhouse, 171 Cuba St
reviewed by Maryanne Cathro 2 May 2010
Rolling together with well warmed up comedians
A truer cross section of Kiwi comics [plus English MC] you couldn’t hope to find. Zoe Lyons worked the audience with lightning repartee. An audience as hyped as this one could have gotten out of hand but this gal knows how to get people on side and working with her. [more]

LATE LAUGHS 2013 at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave

Hot talent offers good value nightcap
This is the first Late Laughs showcase of the festival and there is a crackling excitement brewing in the audience. This is the show where you will experience the edgier material, the controversial taboos blown wide open, the seamier more adult conventions of comedy and most definitely the 'C' word. [more]

LATE SHOW #1 at TAPAC Theatre, Western Springs
reviewed by Bernadette Rae (New Zealand Herald) 5 Oct 2009
Debauchery, madness and mayhem come easy to mature dancers
There was a definite focus, in the first of the two scheduled Late Show programmes, on the mature dancer. First up was Marieke Marygold with excerpts from her clowned and cutely corny theatrical memoir Suite Memories. [more]

Viva la mature dancer!
The #1 Late Show gifts us women dancers who bring a richness and experience to their performance: They’ve been there, done that, and who knows where they’ll go next, but they sure do it in style. [more]
