AND THEN IT MOVED at Te Whaea National Dance and Drama Centre, 11 Hutchison Rd, Newtown
reviewed by Sam Trubridge 16 May 2013
Stunning, beautiful, inventive, sophisticated
And Then It Moved is a stunning collection of works by a brave group of new choreographers and dancers. Regardless of one’s experience with contemporary dance these are works that will speak to their audience through the beautiful compositions that have been made with physical wit, meticulous athleticism, and an inventive use of space, light, sound and materials [more]

AND THEY DID. at BATS
reviewed by John Smythe 10 Feb 2008
Purpose lost for lack of a director
They do for her. The Lady. Three little maids. They do and they do. A frightfully mannered socialite Lady orders her desperate-to-please maids about something rotten in the process of planning and holding a dinner party, and possibly finding some semblance of value in her ghastly lifestyle ... Startling originality and energy
And They Did is by the BabyshadS, a company with a great sense of originality, energy and pizzazz. [more]

AND THEY DID. at BATS
reviewed by Ewen Coleman (The Dominion Post) 11 Feb 2008
Theme buried by frenetic self-indulgence
And They Did is a collaborative piece from a group called Babyshads and like many collaborative works could be subtitled four actors in search of a director. [more]

AND THEY DID. at BATS

‘Political’ message too thin and confused
The show revolves around “Lady” (played in rotation by each of the performers) and her three maids as they prepare for a dinner party being hosted by the Lady ... [more]

AND WHAT REMAINS at BATS

Inconceivable
Timely warning or paranoid fantasy? Credible political scenario or absurdist theatre designed to make a political point? [more]

AND WHAT REMAINS at Radio New Zealand National, 3.04 pm Sundays
reviewed by John Smythe 28 Oct 2007
Flawed play gains further deficits on radio
The question remains: does Miria George’s and what remains pass the all-important ‘willing suspension of disbelief’ test that all genres of drama – no matter how fantastical – need to pass to engage an audience? The premise remains: that all women under 25 who identify as Maori have been obliged to accept a contraceptive injection which now turns out to be making them sterile ... [more]

AND WHAT REMAINS at BATS

Implausible leap of faith required
... This is not to deny that a dystopia cannot occur here and that we shouldn’t be complacent about current injustices, but propaganda, whether a warning or a call to arms, to be effective in the theatre has to make the audience believe that the events being shown have some bearing on reality. ... ANDRE KING – THE RIDE at Limelight Lounge, Aotea Centre
reviewed by Nik Smythe 14 May 2009
A compelling kind of enigmatic cheek
Andre King slopes on stage, a genuine smile curiously combined with a wry smirk through suspiciously squinty eyes. He announces upfront that this will be the ‘interactive’ style of comedy show, and demonstrates by meeting me and asking what I do. “I’m a reviewer,” I say. "Whoa ... [more]

ANDREW MCCLELLAND’S MIXED TAPE at BATS
reviewed by Thomas LaHood 17 May 2007
Moments of absurdity and hilarity amid infectious warmth
McClelland’s boyish enthusiasm is exhibited from the very start, as he prances onstage to the Jackson 5’s ‘Want You Back’ and performs a very bouncy dance number, beaming away like a gigantic, tipsy guinea pig. His joyful appreciation of music permeates the show and keeps us onside throughout. However ... [more]
