THE GIRLS’ SHOW at Concert Chamber - Town Hall, THE EDGE
reviewed by Shannon Huse (New Zealand Herald) 21 Jul 2008
Girls just wanna have fun in high energy, real life show
There's nothing like an energetic youth show to make you feel decrepit. Joyful, naive and full of hope for the future, the 11 young women in The Girls Show would win over even the most hardened cynic with their lust for life … [more]

BLINKERS AND SPURS at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave
reviewed by Shannon Huse (New Zealand Herald) 28 Jul 2008
Good start – galloped well to halfway point – pulled up lame in home straight
A Horse Story is two plays about mismatched men and women who must break through layers of miscommunication to find mutual ground and ways of supporting each other. [more]

BOMBSHELLS at Musgrove Studio, Maidment Theatre
reviewed by Shannon Huse (New Zealand Herald) 4 Sep 2008
Acting’s appealing but the play’s a stinker
All plays require a successful marriage of performer, direction, design and playwright, but for a one-person play it is even more crucial that all elements are in place. [more]

GRACE at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave
reviewed by Shannon Huse (New Zealand Herald) 18 Sep 2008
Rough around the edges but a charmer
It is probably safe to surmise that Sophie Dingemans is something of a control freak, having written, directed and designed the costumes and soundscape for Grace. [more]

THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED at Herald Theatre, Aotea Centre, The Edge
reviewed by Shannon Huse (New Zealand Herald) 27 Oct 2008
Pan-sexual shenanigans not to be missed
The machinations of dirty Hollywood are exposed in the Silo Theatre's biting comedy The Little Dog Laughed, which runs until November 15 at the Herald Theatre. If you enjoy speculating about your favourite star's sexuality and Tom Cruise's couch-jumping declarations of love had you equally appalled and entranced, then this is the play for you. [more]

THE TRIAL at Aotea Centre at THE EDGE®
reviewed by Shannon Huse (New Zealand Herald) 17 Nov 2008
Play guilty of not living up to its promise – but with a few extenuating circumstances
The Lower NZI Room of the Aotea Centre is an unexpected location for a grungy and artistic interpretation of Kafka's paranoid novel The Trial. [more]

21 REASONS at Tararua Tramping Club, Mt Victoria
reviewed by Jackson Coe 12 Feb 2008
Flair for pacey comedy
Following a Sensational season in 2007, Rankle Productions returns to the Fringe Festival this year with their familiar essence of downright kookiness. [more]

SIX O'CLOCK SWILL at Mighty Mighty
reviewed by Jackson Coe 15 Feb 2008
Men in cars, in love and introspective
If, like me, you haven’t been along before, the Six O’Clock Swill is a showcase of short plays by artists from around town. This month’s swill, which coincides with the Fringe Festival, showcases two plays by Neil LaBute [not from these parts - ed], directed by Walter McGinnis, and two plays that are both written and directed by Thomas P. McGrath. [more]

ROME THE MUSICAL at Circa One
reviewed by Jackson Coe (Salient) 7 Jul 2008
Musicals are silly
I once had a drama teacher who despised musical theatre. A great man who appreciated all of theatre’s subtleties, I was always confused by his outright disdain for the genre ... Sadly, Rome - The Musical, playing at Circa, has shown me exactly what Mr Chivers meant. Potentially epic in scope and lavish in execution, this show was lacking in both respects and did absolutely nothing for me. [more]

YOUNG AND HUNGRY 08 at BATS
reviewed by Jackson Coe (Salient) 7 Jul 2008
Fresh and tasting
After watching all three Young and Hungry plays this year, there is no question that the future of the industry is mostly in good hands ... This year’s Young and Hungry has given us two great plays and one which just didn’t quite cut the mustard [more]
