NO. 2 at The Pumphouse, Takapuna
reviewed by Nik Smythe 2 Apr 2009
Must see classic - magic is the word
... It’s the same play, to the delight and satisfaction of an audience who rose during the curtain call in one of the most spontaneous and genuine standing ovations I’ve ever witnessed. The only discernable changes are a few updates Fraser’s trademark contemporary references, which serve to draw laughter of recognition from the audience. [more]

NOEL AND GERTIE at Victoria Theatre (The Vic), 93 Victoria Rd, Devonport
reviewed by Shanon O'Sullivan 1 Jun 2012
Warm, witty, enlightening and enchanting
From the concert halls and West End stages of London to the bright lights of Broadway, Noel and Gertie transports us into a bygone era of glitz, glamour and aplomb. [more]

The Body Festival 2011
NOHUPUKU at The Open Stage, Hagley Community College
reviewed by Julia Milsom 16 Oct 2011
A body which speaks volumes
The space is simply designed but the potency of the symbols fills it beautifully. Down stage right, white pebbles form a human figure reminiscent of polynesian petroglyphs; on the opposite a piece of driftwood gently thrusts into space. Centre stage, two white screens stand like waha roa which literally and aptly translated means, the gates, or the mouth. I feel like a visitor waiting to be welcomed onto this abstract and timeless Marae. [more]

Inner turmoil amid chaos
Described as an existentialist piece of writing, Noisy Shadows tries to portray the inner turmoil individuals have within themselves in trying to justify their existence in a world of increasing chaos. [more]

NONETREEHILL at The Wine Cellar, St Kevins Arcade (K Rd)
reviewed by Stephen Austin 9 Mar 2011
Fast and loose farce
Who are Nonetreehill? They’re Auckland’s favourite newest mid-tempo, radio ready rock band. No surprise that you’ve never heard of them; this is their first gig. [more]

NOOR RAZZAK AND EMMA OLSEN: THE DOUBLE HEADER at Bluenote Bar
reviewed by Thomas LaHood 11 May 2008
Plenty of potential
Emma Olsen was one of my favourite acts in last year’s festival. I described her performance at the Lindauer Comedy Divas as “bright and brilliant... leaves the audience breathless.” Not so here at the Bluenote where she instead leaves us bewildered. [more]

NOOR RAZZAK GOES KABOOM! at Limelight Lounge, Aotea Centre
reviewed by Nik Smythe 14 May 2009
Mining the depths of the Arab cliché
With his Ghostbusters hoody and straw trilby hat he looks like a NY Wellingtonian, but his dark features and "awesome facial hair" give Razzak license to mine every corner of the mountain that is Arab-religious fanatic-terrorism stereotype humour. [more]

NOSTALGIA – ISHINHA (JAPAN) at ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre
reviewed by Kate Ward-Smythe 12 Mar 2009
Less than the sum of its extraordinary parts
NOSTALGIA is a grand marathon 2-hour performance by Japan’s highly regarded Ishinha theatre company. It is the first part of a trilogy [which] symbolises the history of the 20th century in part by using a 4-metre high giant to show how ‘fat’ mankind has become in many regards. A timely resonance given the role greed has played in the current global economic downturn. [more]

NOSTALGIA – ISHINHA (JAPAN) at ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre
reviewed by Janet McAllister (New Zealand Herald) 13 Mar 2009
Beautiful extravaganza could have more tender moments
There's no doubt about it: Nostalgia is spectacular. With a well-drilled cast of 26, an array of clever sets and a great use of space, Japan's Ishinha company presents "people at the mercy of the turbulent [20th] century" with visual panache ... [more]
