APOCALYPSE Z at Aotea Square
reviewed by Paul Simei-Barton (New Zealand Herald) 15 Apr 2013
Theatre of Horrors as zombies invade
Audience members find themselves cast as B-movie extras and interactive drama hits a new level. The growing trend towards interactive theatre is thrown into overdrive in a show that invites you to immerse yourself in the always hazardous task of surviving a zombie apocalypse. [more]

APOCALYPSE Z at Aotea Square

The Stationary Dead
So, the Zombie Apocalypse is finally upon us, but it has arrived with more of a low moan than a blood-lusting scream. Royale Productions’ high-concept Apocalypse Z – written by Simon London and David Van Horn and directed by Andrew Foster - has barricaded itself securely within Aotea Centre. [more]

APOLLO 13: MISSION CONTROL at BATS

Immersive, authentic and could go further
What a remarkable project this production is, and what a truly fascinating extension of the theatre experience beyond our traditional notions. As a STAB commission, Apollo 13 is a very successful example of technically innovative and boundary-crossing theatre, and without doubt it’s a fun ride. [more]

Thrilling ride
APOLLO 13 is astonishing. You enter Mission Control in time for the launch of Apollo 13 moon landing, so many hopes pinned on the mission. You take your place at the consoles. You have responsibilities ... [more]

What a marvel
In a lifetime of theatergoing in this city I have never seen anything quite like Apollo 13: Mission Control. It is a truly amazing production. [more]

APOLLO 13: MISSION CONTROL at Meteor Theatre

An interactive treat: ‘Failure is not an option’
This play is a wee treat. The main attraction is a great design; both expansive in its scope, and well detailed in function and aesthetic. It’s not often you get to sit at the consoles of Houston Mission Control and play with working equipment while being disruptive, interactive, and involved in how the drama unfolds. [more]

APOLLO 13: MISSION CONTROL at Lower NZI, Level 1, Aotea Centre

A fun experience with real dramatic tension
Ingenious devices both technological and theatrical are employed throughout to both replicate the tension of a genuine crisis whilst ultimately leading to a satisfying solution. Receiving arbitrary instructions through their job manuals, or else by telephone or memo, various audience members at different times leap to action accordingly ... [more]

APOLLO 13: MISSION CONTROL at Downstage Theatre

Participate: you know you want to
Whether we have assigned tasks, volunteer for special tasks, or are (like the press corps) keen observers, we live and feel the unfolding drama. From the time bird-strike causes a gas to vent that’s observed from inside the module to which we have video access, problems evolve that threaten first the success of the mission and then the lives of the crew. APOLLO 13: MISSION CONTROL at Downstage - return season
reviewed by Maryanne Cathro 1 Nov 2010
If only algebra had been this exciting in the third form!
This is the third season of Apollo 13 in Wellington – the first in Bats and the second earlier this year, also at Downstage. I am sure that many theatre goers were as excited and relieved as I that we had another chance at this show. How often in theatre does this happen? You miss a season and unlike movies, there is no subsequent DVD release. [more]

With the coveted Purple Pin as well as the Gold Pin for the Best Installation of the Designers Institute of New Zealand Best Awards for 2010 safely tucked in its nose cone, Apollo 13: Mission Control is back again for a second time at Downstage for another season of the most unusual interactive theatre you are ever likely to come across.
