Actors carry off testing dual roles
Jane Waddell and her cast and crew (particularly Chris Ward’s sound effects) have done New Zealand theatre proud in this International Arts Festival with a beautifully realised production of Gary Henderson’s Peninsula. [more]

Seismic rumblings
Family epics are the stuff of theatre – there is such drama within most families, tensions and jealousies, power plays and the ultimate journey, from childhood to adulthood. [more]

PENNY ASHTON’S HOT PINK TEETH ’N’ TITS at Limelight Lounge, Aotea Centre
reviewed by Lexie Matheson 12 May 2011
No place to hide, for her or us in deep-felt romp with pathos
Penny Ashton is a winner, but she wasn’t always. Although this show is unashamedly all about Penny – she says so a number of times – like all good theatre it wheedles its way into the psyche of the audience in insidious ways and, in my case, brought back idiosyncratic memories in a powerful and unexpected way. PENNY ASHTON’S HOT PINK TEETH ’N’ TITS at BATS

Fizzing comedy served with a side of smarts and lycra
Penny Ashton’s latest offering, Hot Pink Teeth 'n' Tits, is a smart, fun and funny show that delves into the world of beauty pageants. [more]

PENUMBRA at SKYCITY Theatre

Flawed but touching epic
Penumbra will speak volumes to many New Zealanders, through its personal inter-generational, multi-cultural stories, which incorporate defining moments from our country’s recent history. Because the content comes largely from the ideas and experiences of bright, fresh New Zealand minds, younger generations in particular, will empathise with Penumbra. [more]

PERFECTLY WASTED at Downstage Theatre

22 actors in search of an author
The quality, commitment and discipline of their ensemble work offers a splendid contrast to the aimless, self-absorbed, somewhat desolate lives they depict in their desperate longing to belong; to not be left out or behind. [more]

Opportunity wasted as audience left in the dark
Watching Perfectly Wasted is like being asked to a party and then finding yourself barred from entering. You can see and hear most of what’s going on but not all and you are no more involved than you are when walking hurriedly through Courtenay Place on a rowdy Saturday night. [more]

Perfect Energy
Long Cloud Youth Theatre gives young actors an outlet for their imaginations and energy. The energy alone is astonishing, as they hurl themselves around the stage. [more]

PERFORMANCE ARTS IN OZ at Venues in Sydney, Perth & Melbourne
reviewed by Jonathan W. Marshall 26 Jul 2009
Uneasy alliances between theatre, other art forms, and the aesthetics of the everyday
In the 1960s so-called Performance Artists began carrying out mundane actions as part of what is now known as “live art.” The general public was unimpressed. Nevertheless, this approach to art making, where everything one did could take on a certain theatrical tension ... [more]

The Compleate Workes Project
PERICLES at Studio 77, VUW

Oriental theatre traditions bring clarity to convoluted plot
The students of the THEA303 course at Victoria University have obviously been very hard at work. Their Asian-theatre “inspired” production of Pericles is an entertaining and thoughtful production that harnesses elements of Chinese and Japanese traditional theatre forms without sacrificing the story.
