PULP COMEDY – THE 15TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL at The Powerstation, 33 – 35 Mt Eden Rd
reviewed by Kate Ward-Smythe 29 Apr 2010
A largely mainstream comedy cocktail
... Of course content reflects age and maturity: rookies who were building their routines on moving to the big bad city and socially awkward situations, now talk about their wives; and the old hands talk about… well, being old. Plus there’s now a flood of material about kids and parenting. [more]

PULP WILLIAM at The Transmission Room

Skilled pastiche of bluster and fury
Three plucky young actors don suits a la Reservoir Dogs and vernaculars a la the Immortal Bard, to regale a wanting assemblage of spectators with a twisted tale of intrigue and scandal. Directed by Greg Cooper, the Court Jesters of Christchurch – Daniel Bain, Brendon Bennetts and Javier Jarquin – skilfully weave a convoluted pastiche of bluster, fury and ingenious improvised comedy. PULP WILLIAM at The Forge at The Court Theatre

A goodly chuckle
Rumbustious stuff this and as well polished as improvised plot- scrambling can ever be. The Jesters frame their inventiveness in a cheeky Tarantino/Shakespeare combination, to the delight of improv devotees and doubtless some new enthusiasts. [more]

PUNCHLINES NOT INCLUDED at Polson Higgs Comedy Club, XII Below Bar
reviewed by Katarina Filipe 21 Mar 2011
Engaging hilarity
The show may have revolved around a comedian struggling to find his niche, but Tarun Mohanbhai (as Tyrone) has certainly worked out what he’s good at. [more]

PUNK ROCK at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave
reviewed by Paul Simei-Barton (New Zealand Herald) 30 Mar 2012
Drama lays bare the brutality of bullying
Outfit Theatre's latest production drops us into the pressure-cooker environment of a posh English secondary school where a group of articulate high-achieving teenagers are preparing for their final A-Level exams. [more]

PUNK ROCK at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave

Seriously impressive rendition of rich and explosive script
Within a minute of watching from the perimeter of the common room where Simon Stephens’ play unfolds, I was sitting up as straight as a pupil next to the school’s Principal. And that’s how I stayed for the next two hours. [more]

PUNK ROCK at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave

Teen angst on overdrive
Pity the British teenager. There’s something about the British school system that has seen it spawn more than its fair share of films, television and plays eviscerating the subject. Alan Bennett’s thoughtful The History Boys, which Punk Rock has been compared to, took a fairly noble approach to student’s studying their final exam. [more]

PUPPET FICTION at Bats Pit Bar

Punters aplenty share passion for Pulp
Lovingly crafted by Jon Coddington, who is joined by James Nokise and Anya Tate-Manning, the superb puppets are instantly recognisable as Travolta, Jackson, et al. The tiny props are brilliant too. [more]

PUPPET FICTION at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave

Has cult smash written all over it
The puppets are incredible – lovingly made, well-observed, and with loads of character, even in repose. Jon Coddington is a gifted artist and a craftsman – and his John Travolta impersonation is totally credible, too. [more]

PUPPETRY OF THE PENIS at SKYCITY Theatre
reviewed by Nik Smythe 17 May 2007
Shamelessly audacious
... Simon Morley and David Friend may well have the most unique job on the face of the earth. They tour the world, proudly exposing their entire bodies (except their feet) and demonstrating their repertoire of feats in the art of Genital Origami. These fellers really ought to know better, but their adoring fans must be grateful they do not. [more]
