ROB LLOYD IN WHO, ME at The Basement
reviewed by Anna Stillaman 8 May 2013
Sharp, engaging and clever
Who, Me sits somewhere between classic stand-up and theatrical performance. It is a one-man show that includes a wealth of chortling moments, and employs Rob Lloyd’s considerable talents as an actor, storyteller, comedian, MC and even dancer. [more]

ROBIN HOOD & MAID MARIAN at Court One
reviewed by Lindsay Clark 24 Apr 2008
Panto-style freshness and vitality
It is a pleasant experience to be part of an excited audience, tingling with anticipation. It is even more heart warming to witness the enthusiasm lasting well into the car park afterwards. Such is the reception encountered at The Court’s current holiday treat, where tiny and not so tiny enjoyed a rollicking romance written and played with good wholesome fun in mind. [more]

ROBIN HOOD AND THE LOST CROWN at Gryphon

The performers make it a happy experience
The rudimentary set of four free-standing flats (one lop-sided), perfunctorily painted to suggest the inside of a castle, sets our expectations low. The opening song lacks lustre too for a moment then takes off as everyone finds their full voice. [more]

ROBIN HOOD AND THE LOST CROWN at Gryphon

Humour, energy and animation
The legend of Robin Hood stealing from the rich to pay the poor has taken many forms over the years, providing many writers with lots of material for creating action packed stories. [more]

ROCK THE BALLET at St James Theatre
reviewed by Lyne Pringle 7 Jun 2012
OMG did you see that move!
The dancers have a WOW factor and it is intriguing to see the mishmash of forms layered onto pretty marvellous classical technique. They are very good; handsome, lithe, athletic and accomplished with on stage charisma and commitment to burn. One chick dances she is named ‘Pretty Girl’ huh? On the night I attended Jordan Lombardi took this role and she was fresh, chirpy, cheeky and great to watch. [more]

ROCK THE BALLET at St James Theatre

Stunning, if a little shallow
Well, Rock the Ballet may not rock the ballet, but it certainly rocked the audience. A troupe of six stunningly fit and fine male dancers, and one smiling coquette, sped through almost 30 numbers that drew on a range of dance influences. [more]

ROCK THE BALLET at Bruce Mason Centre

The Bad Boys of Dance (= guilty pleasures)
The six stunningly well-matched virtuoso twenty-something male dancers of Rock the Ballet (aka The Bad Boys of Dance), make it easy to sit back in your seat, relax and take pleasure in their dancing. And their dancing is the thing in this show – it’s all about the movement. There’s no social commentary, no narrative, nothing profound to come to grips with, just the dancing and their pride and joy in performing with panache. [more]

ROCK ’N’ ROLL at Circa One

The excellence of Stoppard brought to stimulating life
In essence I’d say Rock ’n’ Roll is about revolution: social, political and that of the LP record. And occupation: of states, of minds and of the body (as in cancer). And love; of self, family, humanity – and rock ’n’ roll. Conclusion? It was rock ’n’ roll that defeated Soviet communism in Czechoslovakia. [more]

ROCK ’N’ ROLL at Circa One

World events get Rock rolling
Stoppard’s engrossing play Rock ’n’ Roll starts in a garden in Cambridge, England, in 1968 with the God Pan (or is it Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd?) playing a pipe to a flower child, while in Czechoslovakia Dubcek’s mild reforms are unsettling the Russians. The play ends, having moved back and forth between the two cities, at a Rolling Stones concert in Prague in 1990 at the start of the Velvet Revolution. [more]

ROCK ’N’ ROLL at Circa One

Not to be missed
“I know where Syd Barrett lives,” sang British group the Television Personalities. Tom Stoppard goes one better: he knows where the early Pink Floyd frontman was when he got the inspiration for his song Golden Hair. [more]
