A deep and fecund mulch
Footnote Dance Company’s Made in New Zealand programme is an important event on the annual dance calendar; there is always a warm buzz in the Wellington Opera House as the occasion unfolds. This is a testament to the stoic web of relationships that the company and Deirdre Tarrant have built with their ‘home’ crowd over the years. [more]

What a year!
Once more Welly has wallowed in a wondrous concoction of homegrown, classical and contemporary international work in 2009. The cream of a very healthy year’s primary production is visible in the shows and talents nominated for the democratically selected Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards 09 (voted for by critics) and the shamelessly anarchic Chapman Kip Theatre Awards 09 (where the voting serves to remind everyone what’s happened through the year and may or may not influence the final outcome). Auckland theatre’s best of 2010

Engaging with diversity
Cultural and racial difference is not a principal focus of performance (as is the case with Black Grace). Rather, the diversity of membership, stylistic devices, and musical references provides the main way in which the company engages with anything which might be considered to be specifically national or bicultural.
