Intoxicating selection of bizarre stories Te Radar’s penchant for storytelling and some admirable research combine to form a hilarious and off-the-beaten-track history lesson. It’s jam-packed with stories of New Zealand’s entrepreneurial ‘doofusses’ and DIY nutters of the kind you won’t find in a high school history book. [more] |

A paradoxical achievement Performance-wise Te Radar is more relaxed and assured yet still as lively, enthusiastic and discursive as ever, delighting us afresh with his rediscovery of these stories and with injecting topical asides that prove we Kiwis were ever thus. [more] |

Entertaining and accessible portrait of New Zealand culture I saw a truly enthusiastic, vibrant and enlightening portrayal of New Zealand heritage and identity by a highly articulate and charismatic comedian, performer, educator and Kiwi ambassador. I saw audience members on the edge of their seats ... [more] |

History made exciting, hilarious and inspiring Sometimes it seems that with such a small history, New Zealand doesn’t have much to offer the historical record but Te Radar certainly proved this school of thought wrong. We need not look overseas for stars in history, we have our very own. [more] |

The love, the hardship, the journey It’s an important thing, I feel, to be powhiri’d onto a theatre space. I so often tumble into a show as if by moving train – I forget to look forward to what I’m about to see. To wait at the entrance with 150 or so children to be welcomed onto the Marae is an opportunity for me to prepare myself physically and spiritually for what I am about to experience. [more] |

Youthful quest overblown The opening video sequence is promising. What seems to be a sea of blood turns out to evoke birth. Out of pain comes new life. As a summary of where we are headed this is the contemporary techno-equivalent of the ancient tradition of dumb show. [more] See also reviews by: Lynn Freeman (Capital Times); |

Concrete to mystical Four years of work and a film crew travelling the country to capture the images that first inspired the play – cherry trees, Te Horo marae, trains, sea – went into the work. [more] See also reviews by: John Smythe (John Smythe: theatre reviews); |

A hoot and more Inspired by fond memories of the Enid Blyton stories they grew up on, their later understanding of the dodgy values inherent in her writing, and their discovery that all was not happy at home for the daughters of workaholic Enid, Full.stop.theatre has served up an acerbic brew of their own devising. Whimsy and menace This is like a modern riff on Arsenic and Old Lace, though not in any way derivative. Actors Alex Lodge and Cherie Jacobson and director Edward Watson have devised something altogether more whimsical even than those two old dears who poisoned the elderly and infirm. [more] |

Quirky take on Enid Blyton a must see The setting for the current early evening show at Bats, Tea for Toot, is not what one normally expects from a Bats production. It is the lounge of the Waters sisters, where teacups litter the stage along with lots of other bric-a-brac from a past era and where Emily (Alex Lodge) and Georgia (Cherie Jacobson), sit in antique Edwardian chairs knitting.
