THE COMEDIETTES: BETTER LIVING! (NZ) at BATS
reviewed by Hannah Smith 7 May 2010
Energetic, slick and stylish
The Comediettes: Better Living would make great skits for a late night TV show. Their combination of handy home hints and off-the-wall musical numbers is quirky, original and would easily garner a cult following. Kitsch is the new cool. [more]

THE COMEDIETTES: BETTER LIVING! (NZ) at Fringe Bar, Cnr Cuba & Vivian
reviewed by Priyanka Bhonsule (Hutt News) 19 Feb 2010
Comic blend of deadpan and lively
All settled in, the feisty duo of Sarah Harpur and Jim Stanton launch into their spoof title song; a lifestyle segment on TV giving handy household hints. Last year’s Raw Comedy Quest winners, the two women know how to endear themselves to the audience and get the chuckles, giggles and belly laughs out. [more]

THE COMEDY CURE: WORD ON THE STREET at BATS
reviewed by John Smythe 7 May 2009
Potential hijacked by technology
No-one knows better that the Comedy Cure quartet that their opening show as BATS was a disaster but ‘word on the street’ is it can only improve. Far from deliver a show apologetically predicted to be “so good that the rest of your life will pale into insignificance”, Wednesday’s Word On The Street almost cured its audience of any further appetite for comedy. THE COMEDY OF ERRORS at Mona Vale

Energetic ensemble needs pace not speed
Al fresco Shakespeare is full of promise and equally full of likely complications. There is the prospect of seeing a play freshly in the open air, and the delight of unimpeded leg room, picnics and a generally relaxed time of it. On the other hand there are bound to be encounters with the devils of sound technology, the necessity of bolder playing than many actors have experienced onstage and of course, the weather [more]

THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF WORLD RUGBY (ABRIDGED) at Daffodil Lawn, Botanic Gardens
reviewed by Lindsay Clark 10 Feb 2011
Exhilarating Madness
This year's production from the Outwits has a narrower range than some, with a bloke-ish slant to the humour, as might be expected from the rugby focus. (Expect lots of ball gags and a good deal of wind). There is no shortage of laughs though as three brave fellows (and their referee) romp through a very slick production well buffed up by directors Hadlow and Cooper. [more]

THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) at Uxbridge Centre, 35 Uxbridge Road, Howick
reviewed by Joanna Page 6 Mar 2011
Skill, humour and boundless energy
Originally performed in UK, but Kiwi-ized for the local audience, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare is part play, part seminar, part workshop, and a whole lot of fun. Just three performers re-enact all of Shakespeare’s plays ... [more]

THE CONCHUS SEASON at BATS
reviewed by Laurie Atkinson (The Dominion Post) 20 Aug 2009
Solo stories a little bit hit and miss
The three solo works that make up The Conchus Season deal with three topical issues – child abuse, migration and a family coping with Alzheimer’s disease - in three completely different theatrical styles. [more]

Diverse and impressive theatre exploring stories unique to Aotearoa
The Conchus Season is a brand new initiative masterminded by artistic director Nina Nawalowalo and aimed at exploring ‘issues central to Aotearoa New Zealand today.’ The three original works created and performed by these solo artists are as fierce and different as the artists themselves, but also linked by their common themes of family, identity, community and place. THE CONNECTION at BATS
reviewed by Jenny Stevenson 28 Jan 2010
Masters of Electric Boogaloo need sharp directorial eye
Of all the excuses to get down and boogie “the clock made me do it” must be one of the more original. In The Connection, dancers Future Fame and Mase Boog have the secrets of Electric Boogaloo – a seventies funk style of dancing – revealed to them by an anthropomorphic grandfather clock. [more]
