KIWI MOON at Capital E
reviewed by Laurie Atkinson (The Dominion Post) 10 Mar 2008
Happy fusion of skills and styles make for excellent entertainment
I, along with the rest of the audience, was surprised and amused to be told, after the usual warning to switch off my cell-phone, to relax, wave my hands above my head and wriggle my bottom like a huhu grub before Kiwi Moon, the delightful new show at Capital E, started. [more]

MARILYN: FOREVER BLONDE at Bruce Mason Centre
reviewed by Kate Ward-Smythe 8 Mar 2008
The enigma remains
While both die-hard Marilyn fans and those with a mere passing interest will walk away reminded of her beauty, sex appeal and ‘Hollywood Nous’, anyone hoping for a fresh insight or perspective on her journey and death will come away empty handed. [more]

MARILYN: FOREVER BLONDE at Bruce Mason Centre
reviewed by Shannon Huse (New Zealand Herald) 8 Mar 2008
She walks, she talks just like Marilyn
Marilyn: Forever Blonde makes you wish for a happy ending for poor, lonely Norma Jean. Using the actress's own words to tell her life story, the show leaves you in no doubt that while she had fame and fortune, Marilyn Monroe was really searching for love and acceptance. [more]

SACRED MONSTERS at St James Theatre
reviewed by Lyne Pringle 8 Mar 2008
Questioning the monster of perfection and fame
Something about this work perplexes me and I’m trying to put my finger on it. I felt the same after seeing it in Singapore last year and I was curious to see how it held up dramaturgically, how much of it was spontaneous and whether the script endured. [more]

A heavenly hybrid of French and Indian
France, the leading European force in ballet history; India, the leading force in Asian dance. Place a star from each tradition together on stage and what do you have? A firmament for a festival. [more]

RUTHIE BIRD AND THE KING OF HEARTS at BATS
reviewed by Diane Spodarek 8 Mar 2008
It speaks to the audience about our humanity
Ruthie Bird and the King of Hearts, may be Ellie Smith’s first play but it is a very mature work. Smith, a well-known New Zealand actor and singer brings her theatrical experience to her writing and directing. [more]

PULP WILLIAM at The Forge at The Court Theatre
reviewed by Lindsay Clark 7 Mar 2008
A goodly chuckle
Rumbustious stuff this and as well polished as improvised plot- scrambling can ever be. The Jesters frame their inventiveness in a cheeky Tarantino/Shakespeare combination, to the delight of improv devotees and doubtless some new enthusiasts. [more]

LUV at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave
reviewed by Nik Smythe 7 Mar 2008
Truly impressive multi-role playing in brilliantly layered script
Kicking off with a fevered, mostly one sided, txt exchange between an exuberant young part-time cleaner and the picture-perfect model of his dreams, Thomas Sainsbury’s LUV takes us on a ninety minute, fairly in-depth account of the various strategies for playing the mating game for young people in these modern times. Along the way we learn that whilst technology makes contact and communication ever quicker and easier, the basic issues of loneliness, desire, self esteem and questioning loyalty are the same as always. FLICKER at The Auckland Performing Arts Centre: TAPAC
reviewed by Felicity Molloy 7 Mar 2008
Exquisite treasure must be seen
Going to a dance show choreographed by Ann Dewey with her now distinctive, and I imagine fairly collaborative, artistic ensemble is a bit like going to dinner with a group of old friends. Doesn’t happen enough but when it does it really is memorable and very, very satisfying. [more]

Dramatic tension missing #1
Hail to the Thief goes to the Book of Samuel for the tale of David and Bathsheba for its plot. [more]
