REQUIEM at Wellington Performing Arts Centre
reviewed by Lyne Pringle 3 Mar 2008
Ground-breaking work
These women are mothers, grandmothers, working professionals, writers, designers, and CEO’s who in their dancing together present a profound celebration of the place for dance as a community event to enrich the lives of participants and audiences alike. This group dance magnificently and go from strength to strength as they near their tenth anniversary. [more]

ANTON’S WOMEN at Musgrove Studio, Maidment Theatre
reviewed by Paul Simei-Barton (New Zealand Herald) 3 Mar 2008
Secrets and memories of Dalmatian migrant’s life
Our awareness of the Dalmatian presence in New Zealand often seems to begin and end with the strange-sounding names on the flagons of dodgy red wine that used to flow out of the vineyards of West Auckland. [more]

WASPS at Studio 77 Amphitheatre, 77 Fairlie Tce
reviewed by John Smythe 2 Mar 2008
Relaxed, chatty and festive
Wasps is Aristophanes' satirical jibe at the bloated jury system in Athens, or rather the self-serving practices of jurors and those who employed them, under the political leadership of Cleon, at the height – in 422BC – of his demagogic powers. [more]

BEYOND THE BLUE at Concert Chamber - Town Hall, THE EDGE
reviewed by Nik Smythe 2 Mar 2008
Adventurous theatre of intrepid adventures
Twelve energetic young women aged 16 - 20 comprise the cast of Beyond the Blue, an initiative which began a year ago, after a process of auditioning and intensive workshopping. I imagine that each of them must feel very fortunate to be involved with such purely creative and truly original storytelling. [more]

SHEN WEI DANCE ARTS at St James Theatre
reviewed by Mark James Hamilton 2 Mar 2008
Dense rich dance and narratives
An intricate crowd of grey figures peoples Rite of Spring. Their sped up walks and looping phrases warp time. I watched their movement motifs’ synchronise with the musical phrases. This happened better for some dancers than others ... [more]

SHEN WEI DANCE ARTS at St James Theatre
reviewed by Lyne Pringle 1 Mar 2008
Taking the world of dance by storm
This programme presents two very contrasting works choreographed by Chinese born, New York based Shen Wei and his company of mostly American dancers. Firstly Rite of Spring set to Stravinsky’s iconoclastic score and the second work Folding to music by John Tavener and Tibetan Buddhist Chant. [more]

THE CHRONICLES – LEGACY DANCE CREW at Te Whaea National Dance and Drama Centre, 11 Hutchison Rd, Newtown
reviewed by Lyne Pringle 1 Mar 2008
Infectious joy and commitment pulls in the punters
Te Whaea was pumping last night with a full house, long waiting list and palpable excitement in the crowd – they get my vote for best audience of the Fringe. [more]

GET CUFFED! at BATS
reviewed by John Smythe 1 Mar 2008
Leaves me untouched
Esther is more than a bit tied up when we meet her. She is fluffy-cuffed at the wrists and ankles and chained to a bed, wearing D-Vice corsetry and a sexy feather-trimmed gown. Her boudoir is strewn with anatomically correct dildos, a cowboy-hatted pianist dozes at his upright and once she has spat the dummy (I think it’s known in the trade as a butt plug), Esther sings – what else? – ‘Please Release Me …!’ full bore. LOCATION LOCATION at Gryphon
reviewed by Ewen Coleman (The Dominion Post) 1 Mar 2008
free flowing, energised production
Sam Fisher’s new play Location, Location is, as the title suggests, about the real estate industry. And not just the bad side, as Fisher cleverly balances the sleaze of the industry, through the character of John (Phil Darkins), with Andrew ( Todd Rippon) – a new age sensitive guy who is left to pick up the pieces after John does a runner with the company’s trust funds. LADY OF TEARS at Gryphon
reviewed by Ewen Coleman (The Dominion Post) 1 Mar 2008
Not just weird, but wonderful too
Whimsical and nonsensical, the play is an eclectic mix of Chekhovian dialogue, with absurdist, farce and science fiction theatre that all meld together surprisingly well. [more]
