THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST at Maidment
reviewed by Kate Ward-Smythe 15 Mar 2010
A horny, drug-fuelled, witty trip
They cut a line, snort cocaine, get stoned, skull regular nips of spirits and grab urgent sex when they can – all while self-assuredly going about their daily routine of superior banter and keeping up appearances, answerable to no one but themselves. [more]

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST at Maidment

Superb update reminder of Earnest’s importance
The enduring appeal of Oscar Wilde's masterpiece stems from its remarkable ability to be all things to all people. Subtitled "a trivial comedy for serious people", it has always delighted the social class that it so mercilessly satirises and audiences can never be sure whether the play is a frothy amusement or a disturbing piece of philosophy. THE IMPOSTAR: WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS? at BATS
reviewed by John Smythe 7 Dec 2012
Talent-laden blast from many a past
Judging by the opening night audience reaction, culminating in a standing ovation, Jason Chasland is onto a winner with The ImpoSTAR: Who Does He Think He Is? [more]

THE IMPOSTAR: WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS? at BATS
reviewed by Laurie Atkinson (The Dominion Post) 10 Dec 2012
Talent raw yet it’s impressive
Jason Chasland has a cult following of hysterical screamers who were out in full force for the opening night of his The ImpoSTAR as they whooped, hollered and screeched with laughter throughout his seventy minute show. [more]

THE IMPOSTERS at Mighty Mighty
reviewed by John Smythe 17 May 2007
Their own sternest critics?
The well disposed audience that packed Mighty Mighty last night (Wednesday) gave The Imposters a good hearing, laughing out loud at good material well delivered empathising happily with the occasional stuff-up, and simply falling silent when it went beyond the pale. [more]

THE IMPOSTERS: HEROES AND HEROIN at NZ Film Archive
reviewed by John Smythe 8 May 2008
Good in parts, dodgy in others
Given their collective name I can’t exactly say The Imposters are dishonest when their media release says: “People saw that we were something a bit different to your usual comedy show [last year] and I think there was a market for that. This year we’ve gone a step further and we’re producing something that we don’t think has ever been done in the New Zealand International Comedy Festival before.” [more]

THE IMPROV BANDITS: THE ELIMINATOR at Musgrove Studio, Maidment Theatre
reviewed by Joanna Davies 13 May 2010
Slick, quick, genuine fun
You know you’re in the presence of improv experts when, in the space of 2 minutes, they can take a flat audience and transform them into eager, perky punters. In that respect The Improv Bandits are human Berocca. [more]

THE IMPROV DIVAS 2010 (NZ) at BATS
reviewed by Hannah Smith 12 May 2010
Fierce and funny ladies fall back on macho stereotypes
Sometimes I love improv, sometimes I hate it, but I always like the ladies. The Improv Divas, regulars of the Wellington improv scene, return to Bats with their latest all-female-all-made-up-on-the-spot-extravaganza. [more]

THE IMPROVISORS IN COMIC HEROES at Circa Two
reviewed by John Smythe 1 May 2013
If you like lycra …
Long form improv is quite a challenge and its one of those things that, like most arts, looks effortless when done well, so it’s easily taken for granted. But there’s not much danger of that in The Improvisors’ opening foray into their new format, Comic Heroes. [more]

THE IMPROVISORS IN HISTORY NEVER REPEATS at Circa Two
reviewed by Maryanne Cathro 2 May 2012
Hilarious as always
The Improvisors take on the entire history of humanity; well from 20,000BC to the future, anyway. This is an ambitious feat, given the knowledge required of the players and audience to fill out the details with some semblance of credibility. [more]
