BATTLE OF THE BASTARDS at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave
reviewed by Matt Baker (TheatreScenes - the Auckland Theatre Blog) 29 Apr 2013
A show worth fighting for
Starting nearly half an hour late can result in an immediate uphill battle for a performer, but, with an enthusiastic energy and true showmanship, David Ladderman quickly has us on his side in his one-man show Battle of the Bastards. [more]

BATTLE OF WITS at Fringe Bar, Cnr Cuba & Vivian
reviewed by James McKinnon 20 Feb 2011
Strong female cohort improves improv
Battle of WITs is probably one of the safest bets for a good time at the Fringe (or any other time, really). This version of improvised theatre pits three teams against each other in five rounds of short-form improv games. [more]

BAXTER IN THE DARK, TE RONGO O TE WAIRUA at Meteor Theatre
reviewed by Liza Kire 22 Sep 2012
Eye-opening rawness in the dark
Baxter in the Dark is not just a performance; it is an experience that is sure to satisfy every sense that you have. Just make sure you don’t eat the wasabi peas. [more]

BE GLAD YOU’RE NEUROTIC at Gryphon
reviewed by John Smythe 22 Feb 2012
Needs less pacing and better pacing
With a declared role model like Woody Allen, it's surprising Phil Braithwaite's monologue about being neurotic doesn't have us laughing out loud more. Not that there's not the odd guffaw on opening night – quite a few in fact – but mostly we smile at the way he interrogates his own life in relation to Dr Louis E Bisch's seminal 1939 book, Be Glad You're Neurotic. BE GLAD YOU’RE NEUROTIC at Gryphon
reviewed by Laurie Atkinson (The Dominion Post) 23 Feb 2012
Normal neuroses
Be Glad You’re Neurotic is a simple “tragic comedy of 21st century living, and a book on how to take care of those niggling neuroses.” [more]

BE GLAD YOU’RE NEUROTIC at Globe Theatre
reviewed by Jennifer Aitken 16 Mar 2012
Somewhat pointless?
Neurotic people are better than ordinary people. To be normal is to be mundane. The neurotic thinks deeply about life. One must harness one's neurosis and use it like a superpower! This is what you will learn if attend Be Glad You’re Neurotic at the Dunedin Fringe Festival. [more]

BE | LONGING: A VERBATIM PLAY at Allen Hall Theatre
reviewed by Terry MacTavish 3 Mar 2012
Lovingly drawn
This exercise engenders a cosy sense of community; actors and audience mingle and wander across the set, which is no more than a few chairs and one table in front of a screen. All very low key, and suited to the style of verbatim theatre. [more]

BE | LONGING: A VERBATIM PLAY at Lower NZI, Level 1, Aotea Centre
reviewed by James Wenley (Theatre Scenes - Auckland Theatre Blog) 23 Feb 2012
Stories from the Source
New Zealand, famously, is a land of immigrants. Waves of migration over the country’s history have created a rich fabric of cultures, as well as perhaps an uncertain ‘kiwi’ cultural identity. What is it aboutNew Zealandthat makes it unique, and what is this discovery like for new arrivals? [more]

BEAST at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave
reviewed by Sian Robertson 3 Jul 2008
Classic horror/thriller also funny, a scream in fact
Two brothers and a sister hit the road north to attend a funeral … Travelling without a map, they take a wrong turn … To say Thomas Sainsbury is an exciting new talent in New Zealand theatre is an understatement. He’s the most challenging, down-to-earth, funny and refreshingly unsettling playwright/ director I’ve come across in years … [more]

BEATCAMP! at Circa Two
reviewed by Helen Sims 18 Apr 2011
Strong singing and dance moves with weak framing devices
We are warned to “Prepare for a beating” at the BeatGirls’ BeatCamp. What we probably come off with is more of a light spanking, despite the first 15 minutes or so being devoted to S & M innuendo. [more]
