ROCK THE BALLET at St James Theatre
reviewed by Lyne Pringle 7 Jun 2012
OMG did you see that move!
The dancers have a WOW factor and it is intriguing to see the mishmash of forms layered onto pretty marvellous classical technique. They are very good; handsome, lithe, athletic and accomplished with on stage charisma and commitment to burn. One chick dances she is named ‘Pretty Girl’ huh? On the night I attended Jordan Lombardi took this role and she was fresh, chirpy, cheeky and great to watch. [more]

BREATHE: A CELEBRATION OF SONG AND DANCE IN AID OF CYSTIC FIBROSIS at Soundings - Te Papa
reviewed by Lyne Pringle 10 Jul 2012
A sublime and special fundraising event
It is great to see art being used for community good: deeply heart-warming.... It is a darn good idea to have an evening of dance pas de deux - and a privilege to attend. [more]

Lucy Green as Cinderella, Royal NZ Ballet, Tower Season 2012
THE TOWER SEASON OF CINDERELLA at St James Theatre
reviewed by Lyne Pringle 3 Aug 2012
Sumptuous, satisfying and pleasing to the eye
Act II is gorgeously stylish with a well-tuned corps de ballet dancing intricate choreography that swirls in the space to evoke a royal ballroom. The performances of the ugly sisters lift off with fabulous solos from them and they are hilarious as they pursue first the prince and then the prince’s friends who jęte and prance with terrific elevation. HOTEL at Museum Hotel
reviewed by Sarah Richardson (Salient) 26 Feb 2007
Loneliness, isolation, and transience
Hotel is staged in the opulent surroundings of the Museum Hotel – opulent being the operative word here - I’ve never seen so much gold paint and chiffon in my life. Considering that they proved a particular fascination to the other audience members on the evening I went and have been commented on elsewhere, I can’t help but drop in a word about the bathrooms. “White” doesn’t even begin to describe them. I felt like I’d walked into an off-screen bathroom in the final scene of 2001: A Space Odyssey. [more]

BATHING WITH ELEPHANTS AND OTHER EXOTIC REVERIES at Civic Theatre
reviewed by Alexa Wilson 28 Jan 2012
A mysterious and exotic ensemble of works
The smaller, hidden rooms of The Civic Theatre become home to a cocktail of ideas around far away places, self consciously exotic or otherwise, including new technologies which involve triggers, masks and weirdness, and playful improvisation. [more]

RED (RNZB) at Aotea Centre at THE EDGE®
reviewed by Felicity Molloy 15 Feb 2008
Far outshines previous work
I love it that the company is bringing forth inventive work. I love it that the dancers get to dance difficult movement in sophisticated choreography to diverse music. I love it that the dancers are a more hybrid group. [more]

THE HUNGRY ATTIC at The Basement, Lower Greys Ave
reviewed by Felicity Molloy 15 Mar 2010
Sensitive, mystery-filled evening of dance
The Hungry Attic is the latest production for the maturing Auckland based group, Backlit Productions. The Basement Theatre becomes like an attic for their latest collaborative show. Even in the confined space of this tiny theatre their work stands out as a must see event. [more]

JOAN OF HEARTS at Old Folks Association Hall, 8 Gundry St, Newton
reviewed by Felicity Molloy 11 Jun 2011
Experimental, courageous outcomes
This time round, Joan of Hearts is presented by Sweaty Heart Productions as a collective “with a focus on supporting and encouraging” dancers, “namely women”....... each dancer/ choreographer maintains an individuated focus on their own particular work. [more]

TASTE ME - THE LIVE SERIES at Galatos
reviewed by Felicity Molloy 30 Jun 2011
Taster invites return for more
What I saw was a veritable feast of hybrid art – a buffet? No - we followed the menu from start to finish with a selective build towards a slowly unwinding ending. A degustation then and one which (as much as I am about to overuse menu metaphors!), inevitably, I draw from subsequent comparisons with other recent tastes of hybrid contemporary dance works. STRANGE RESTING PLACES at BATS
reviewed by Melody Nixon (The Lumiere Reader) 17 Jul 2007
alive, respectfully challenging, memorable
Both Mâori and Italian traditions are interwoven in this piece of brilliantly inclusive theatre by Paolo Rotondo and Rob Mokaraka. Strange Resting Places contacts with what is “real”, and creates a genuine theatrical interaction. [more]
