Improv treatment real Austentatious delicacy
Although Jane Austen's stories are deeply embedded in a particular time and place they have an elastic quality that lets them be all things to all people. [more]

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW at Civic Theatre
reviewed by Paul Simei-Barton (New Zealand Herald) 11 Nov 2010
Iconic show triumphant blast of nostalgia
Ambling onstage as the show's narrator, Rocky Horror creator Richard O'Brien was greeted with a spontaneous eruption of applause. He acknowledged the welcome with a typically Kiwi piece of self-effacement - casually announcing that "the little bodgie bastard is back". [more]

reviewed by Paul Simei-Barton (New Zealand Herald) 24 Nov 2010
Compelling look at forces behind family violence
Among the moving testimonies of people affected by family violence is the voice of a police officer who speaks with the penetrating clarity born of day-to-day experience as he explains that you can't fix a problem by arresting people and that to fix something you have to understand it. [more]

MARY STUART at Maidment

Leads give Schiller’s royal scrap an electric edge
ATC’S production of Mary Stuart provides a thrilling introduction to Friedrich Schiller – the philosopher, poet and playwright who is honoured in Germany with the same kind of respect that English speakers reserve for Shakespeare. [more]

THE LAST TANIWHA at Mangere Arts Centre
reviewed by Paul Simei-Barton (New Zealand Herald) 25 Jun 2011
Distinctive voice of the taniwha
Current events suggest the show's title is somewhat premature in proclaiming the imminent extinction of the taniwha. But the spirit that haunts Chris Molloy's play is of a very different order from the remarkably resilient species that has been turning up at recent planning tribunal hearings and city council meetings.
