reviewed by Terry MacTavish 23 Mar 2013
An admirable venture
Ye canna lay claim to the proud name o’ MacTavish wi’oot your heart stirrin’ at the skirl o’ the pipes!* And the pipers are here in full splendour outside the stunning Victorian Gothic castle that is Otago Boys High School. It is the perfect, appropriate venue for one of the most fascinating enterprises of the Fringe. [more]

When Harry meets Charlie
From the wings, the distinctive sound of bagpipes. Happily chatting about some Harry Potter movie, an excited group of children, together with Uncle Ian, walk across the traverse stage. He’s about to tell them a different story, one that, like Harry Potter, has connections with Glenfinnan. [more]

Cheerfully innocent, delightfully silly musical spectacle
Leading Australian children’s theatre company Windmill has come to Auckland for the first time to present Boom Bah!, a curious oddity based on the best-selling picture book by Phil Cummings and Nina Rycroft. [more]

BOOMERANG LEAN AND THE SHE-DEVIL FROM OUTER SPACE at Happy (Cnr Tory & Vivian)

Refreshing, original, cheeky, noncommittal …
For this Fringe Festival romp, Helen O’Rourke and Stephanie Cairns have created a surprisingly light-hearted, cute and frolicking piece of musical comedy, full of straight exposition and underdeveloped plot-lines, but wonderfully fun all the same. [more]

Forget cougars – this snow leopard is queen of the jungle
Having become somewhat of a musical icon around Wellington, Jane Keller can now draw an audience that would be the envy of many performers. [more]

Slightly self-mocking songs and stories
As segues between songs, Keller amuses us with tales that take us from high school to present day. Whether the stories have been written to fit the song selection or the songs picked to fit the stories is up for debate, but it provides an opportunity for her to interact with the audience and set a light, slightly self-mocking tone. Dramatic flair and intensity
Baby boomers – that is, those born between 1945 and 1960 – gathered last night to hear Jane Keller lampoon their generation in song and have a great time. They weren't disappointed. Keller's one-woman, cabaret-style show Boomers Behaving Badly presented songs of botox, grand children, well-endowed dentists, revenge porn, romantic weekends in Paris and high school reunions. Boomer blooms with talent and wit
Jane Keller’s one woman show is mostly musical with a bit of reminiscent stand-up comedy thrown in. With her excellent vocal range, from a background in music and theatre, and flair for facial manoeuvres, Keller is a great comedienne and more than satisfies a crowd of grey haired boomers, with a few Gen Y‘s thrown in for colour. BOOOM! at Medici Court, Hamilton Gardens
reviewed by Mark Houlahan 17 Feb 2013
Fraudsters and fools in financial scams
It’s a very simple premise, and allows the invention of outrageous versions of 1980s types. There’s a sad widow, desperate to contact her husband on the other side. A fake gypsy accent is enough to convince her she is dealing with a real medium. There’s a desperate actress and her stupid, angry rich brother. All their cash is swallowed up. [more]

See this transcendent and elegant work!
Congratulations to Lisa Twomey and team for an intelligent and multi-faceted dance and physical theatre programme for the 2008 NZ International Arts Festival. As a happy dance/body punter I offer my heartfelt thanks.
