From 1 Mar 2013 to 3 Mar 2013

Hairy Thing presents A BEAUTIFICATION OF SPATULAS extravaganza.

That's right! Hairy Thing are on their way to Auckland, umbrellas and all, to perform their greatest work yet; ‘A Beautification of Spatulas'. Just kidding, there probably won't be any umbrellas, but there might be a spatula or two. This fierce performance will be held at Silo Park, Jellicoe St, on the first three days of March, 2013.

A Beautification of Spatulas is a dance that is made for you. The performers will not deny your presence and will create an environment of risk, play and imagination. Don't expect to see the same thing twice; it is a dance of chance, experimentation and improvisation. It will ask questions, make statements and encourage thought without the intention of arriving at a definitive and predictable resolution.

Having recently graduated from Australia's Deakin University, the members of Hairy Thing were keen to get back into performance mode, and quickly jumped on the Auckland Fringe bandwagon to entertain, have some fun and to gain ‘international artist' status. Their previous works have been described as;
“A clever, funny work which, at times, has an underlying anger to it”
“An intelligent and thought-provoking experiment which asks more questions than it answers, however, this is its strength.” –Shaun McLeod

All artists are based in Melbourne and are currently working together on their second edition of ‘Future Future dance publication'. It is a publication that seeks to facilitate critical discussion, reflection and debate on the current and future practice of dance research and performance. The first edition can be accessed online via www.dancewhatnext.wordpress.com.

A Beautification of Spatulas' is no different, challenging both audiences and old-fashioned notions of what dance is. The show will blow your mind – or your money back.
