Philippa WARD

Philippa (Pippa) Ward passed away peacefully at Wellington Hospital on 24th July 2025, aged 84, after a short illness, surrounded by love, and listening to Brahms.

A distinguished pianist, repetiteur (for opera companies) and accompanist, Philippa was also a gifted music teacher and adjudicator.

Dearly loved daughter of the late Denzil and Mary Ward. Treasured mother of Diana Ward-Pickering and Jennifer Ward-Lealand. Cherished older sister of Virginia and the late Betsy Ward. Adored grandmother of Samuel and Elizabeth, Jack and Cameron. Much loved mother-in-law of Geoffrey and Michael.

The Whānau extend their heartfelt thanks to the exceptional medical team and district nurses at Wellington Hospital for their care and compassion.

A celebration of Philippa’s life was held at St. Andrew’s on The Terrace, Wellington on Thursday, 31st July at 11.00am, followed by a private family burial at Makara Natural Cemetery
