Comment on review of Early Midnight Circus – “Variations on the same lame set-up with no payoff to justify it” – Hi John, I am really sorry that you had such a miserable time at this show. It is such a shame because the show was literally curated with something for everyone, regardless of your sense of humour, and everyone in the audience was laughing, singing, dancing and really enjoying themselves, except for you it seems. To have had such a terrible experience at this show that you wrote such a bitter and scathing review is actually quite concerning. Genuinely asking John, are you doing okay? Maybe you were just having a bad day but as a professional, you should try not to less that interfere with your work. However, if this was you on a good day, then I highly recommend you consider retiring from writing comedy reviews because it seems you have lost sight of the whole point of comedy which is to just laugh and have a good time. The world is full of so many things to make you miserable, comedy should not be one of them.

Please just remember, that these performers have full time jobs outside of this show and are doing it with their own time and money for the pure love of comedy and performing. It was disappointing to the whole cast that the microphones provided by the venue weren’t working on the night, but these things are expected to happen on the opening night of a show, in a brand new and unfamiliar venue. It was completely out of their control but the performers made the best of the situation they had especially with a show right before them and very little time to set up. If it upset you so badly, perhaps consider funding the $800-$1000 it costs to rent microphones for their next show. Regardless of the technical difficulties, which were fixed for the next night, the show was an amazingly fun, engaging, hillarious, chaotic, energetic and highly uplifting experience for the rest of us.

I enjoyed it so much, that I went the next night and saw many familiar faces that did the same. Again, I’m really very sorry that you spent a night on this earth feeling so miserable and angry. I hope you are doing better now. Wishing you all the best, for a much happier life, John.
