AVE: contemporary dance and Siva Samoa.

AVE is a dance work about six Samoan women, exploring ideologies around colonisation, cultural belonging,

and the challenges they face on their search for identity. Six personal stories are explored through elements of Siva Samoa, hip-hop, contemporary dance, spoken word complimented with live drumming.

>|< a new work by Sagapolutele for three dancers that draws on a pattern used in ‘malu’ the Samoan female tattoo traditions. Performed in the NZ Portrait Gallery for just a few performances , this stunning dance is about female forms of divinity , and their place as the original navigators and tattooists.
