Sister Wives is a gripping drama inspired by an unsettling true event in Wellington, NZ. Three unsuspecting women discover their entanglement with a charismatic, dark-natured narcissist and unite to expose his web of lies.

With shattered trust and unwavering resilience, this captivating, black-box production delves into the complexities of relationships and the power of female camaraderie.

A compelling real-life experience and a quest for answers. Revealing the depths of twisted love, the indomitable strength of sisterhood and the disquieting realisation that darkness can lurk in familiar corners.

Indescribable and riveting narrative sees Sisters steal our hearts

Review by Talia Carlisle 19th Oct 2024

Does the perfect boyfriend exist?

Natalie thinks so when she meets a handsome, confident and funny dentist and they instantly align faster than her Invisalign. But her treatment soon becomes her illness when two other women enter the picture and this love tangle becomes messier than used floss.

Natalie, Olivia and Joan become an unlikely trio with more mission than Charlie’s Angels and raging puff than The Powerpuff Girls. Together they tackle the charming, delightful and downright liar in their lives with surprising twists of events that only a true story could surprise you with, as brilliantly researched and crafted together by Wellington writer, director and creative royalty Natasha McAllister.

So fierce is Natasha’s passion for performing, storytelling and uplifting women in the creative scene that Sister Wives thrives on this successful concoction, despite being a developmental production put together in 6 weeks.

Two years in the making, every line seduces our ears and all three actors steal our hearts. Tabatha Bertei-Killick is Natalie, the adventurous and curious romantic. Maya Handa Naff is Olivia, the successful career driven and passionate, funny brain of the three. Jade Merematira is Joan, the perfect doctor and housewife who somehow doesn’t meet Aaron’s family’s approval.

These three combine forces in an indescribable and riveting narrative that helps them to find their voice, find the joy in a dark and dangerous situation and look after each other, which is what we all need no matter what we are going through or who we find alongside us on our own trials in life.

I can’t wait to see the return of Sister Wives in full glory, and I can’t wait for the world to fall in love with this story and talented creative team from Dollhouse productions, more than Wellington already is.

As if you needed another reason to see it, their playlist has the biggest dance party vibes that will see you dancing your worries away to classics, ‘thank u, next’, ‘Unholy’, ‘Mambo No. 5’, ‘bad guy’ and ‘Flowers’.

The lighting is stunning – by Scott Maxim, operated by Kate Anderson – and the costumes are fabulous, boosted no doubt by Natasha’s incredible wardrobe.

You too will walk out feeling fabulous and ready to lift up the women in your life. Support theatre by lifting up the fabulous artists in Sister Wives and look out for their return – I have no doubt they will be back with a vengeance.
