Adrienne Matthews is a poet, writer and artist based in Nelson, New Zealand. She has had numerous reviews of theatre, art and musical performances published over the years. These days she writes extensively for publications on an extensive range of subjects. Achieving her piano teaching qualification in her late teens she has always had a passion for music and was a teacher of piano for a number of years. She is also a songwriter who has a CD “From the Inside” to her name which contains a selection of her own work. She has sung and acted on stage.
Adrienne was “born into a world of books” thanks to her parents being teachers and her father working for some years as a manager at Whitcombe and Tombs in Wellington. That love of books has transformed into her love of the written word and her passion for research, interviewing people from all works of life and the telling of stories. She was the winner of this year’s Open Section in the New Zealand Society of Author’s ‘Wellington Poets on the Writer’s Walk’ Competition. Adrienne is also an abstract artist whose work can be found in homes and businesses in New Zealand and overseas.
Adrienne is not afraid of tackling difficult subjects and endeavours to look at situations from multiple points of view, aware of the many layers that contribute to people’s experiences and society’s contradictions and challenges.
