Production Details

The Wet Hot Beauties, New Zealand’s favourite contemporary water ballet company and winners of 2011 & 2013 Auckland Fringe Festival’s Peoples Choice Award, are kicking off their 2014 season with something a little different.

This summer, New Zealand’s favourite (and only) mermaids and mermen are ditching the pool and hitting the beach!

In keeping with their 1930s-inspired, cheeky, modern tradition, the Wet Hot Beauties proudly present ‘Oh! We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside’ – a series of short, saucy, seaside spectacles.

Oh! We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside’ takes the iconic New Zealand summer beach culture and twists it into something fun and quirky by adding some brass band tiddly-om-pom-pom beats and good ole fashioned British seaside promenading.

Auckland’s favourite beaches come alive as glorious and glamorous girls and guys gather and frolic on the foreshore to entertain and delight. All the Wet Hot Beauties style and humour you know and love.

Funded by Auckland Council Creative Communities, this is a free community event.

Praise for the Wet Hot Beauties:

Before they even dipped a toe in the water this week, the Wet Hot Beauties were the media’s feelgood, sold-out hit of the summer.” – Janet McAllister, NZ Herald. !

Extremely engaging and over all too soon.” – Roxanne de Bruyn, Theatreview.

These performers, from many different walks – or swims – of life, have nailed it. Swan Song, an early Fringe highlight, is a truly impressive show that delivers in splashes.” – James Wenley, Theatre Scenes

Wet. Hot. Enchanting. Hilarious” – Dr Linda Ashley, Theatreview
