You can opt out (check your browser’s ‘Help’ to find out how), in which case your use of the site will not be tracked in this way, although this may reduce the number or type of services you can access on the site.   Disabling the function will not affect your ability simply to view the website. Our policy concerning privacy is contained in our Privacy Policy.

Privacy Policy

This policy concerns the privacy of personal information which The Theatreview Trust collects through this website, https://www.theatreview.org.nz/.  It is set out here in order to let you know if or how we collect it, what that is, what we do with it and how we keep it private.   We collect and use any such information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020, together with the Official Information Act 1982 and the Public Records Act 2005.

Our policy means that we collect personal information from you only where this is necessary to carry out our functions.

We use and share your personal information only where necessary to carry out the functions for which we collected it.

We retain any of your collected personal information securely, supply a copy to you if you ask, and amend or delete the information if you ask.

We report serious privacy breaches.

We do not sell or rent any personal information gathered through this website, at any time or for any purpose.

We will not collect, use, share or disclose personal information received through this website except as legally required or to ensure your or the site’s safety, and as set out here.

What information we collect through the website, and how we collect and use it

You can access and use the website without telling us who you are or revealing any information by which someone could identify you.

However, you may choose from time to time to provide personal information through this website, eg, by joining as an audience member to receive email alerts and add comments to reviews or participate in forums, by providing feedback, by supplying information on the productions reviewed, or to donate.  That can include your name, email address, numbers and other personal details.  The data collected will only be that you provide yourself, and apart from other legal requirements will only be used for the purpose for which you provided it.

Through cookies on the website we may also collect information about you in the course of your using the site without your deliberately providing the information yourself.  The cookies are used to gather and analyse data about trends in website usage, measure how you use the website so it can be updated and improved, identify potential cases of abuse, and similar.  They are not used to track individual user activity around this site.  The information is aggregated and will not identify you personally.

Some browsers incorporate a Do Not Track feature that signals to websites you visit that you do not want to have your online activity tracked.  Tracking is not the same as using or collecting information in connection with a website. For these purposes, tracking refers to collecting personally identifiable information from consumers who use or visit a website or online service as they move across different websites over time.  How browsers communicate the Do Not Track signal is not yet uniform.  As a result, the Theatreview website is not yet set up to interpret or respond to Do Not Track signals communicated by your browser.  Even so, as described throughout this Policy, we limit our use and collection of your personal information.

Theatreview does not have any law enforcement or regulatory compliance responsibilities, and does not gather any information for these purposes at any time.

When or how we share the information we collected

The information you provide is held by Theatreview.  It may be shared with, and held by, third party contractors to the extent necessary for those parties to provide the services, and administration and/or improvement services in relation to the website.   It may be viewed by site administrators, our own contractors and Trustees (as appropriate), and third-party contractors who may administrate or work on the site or provide the services.  All of these people will be subject to the information security and privacy requirements of this privacy policy.

The information we collect through cookies may be used in statistical analysis such as that provided by Google analytics.  It will not be viewed, used or shared in a way which identifies you personally.

Where you voluntarily include contact information, booking links and website addresses in material provided to Theatreview for publication, we understand that to mean you intend that information to be made publicly available and, by sending it to Theatreview, that you agree to its publication.

Content uploaded by registered users may also be used or referenced by Theatreview in documents or other publications. Where this happens, Theatreview will reference the source for the content.

We may be legally required or permitted, such as under the Official Information Act 1982 or to Parliament, to share information.  Apart from that, unless it is necessary to do so for the purpose for which you gave us the information (eg, to investigate a complaint), we will not otherwise share with any other person, website, or entity any information collected which identifies you, without your consent.

How we store your information

All the personal information we collect is held securely.  This website is hosted on a virtual private server in the cloud in a controlled secure datacentre.  We maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards for protection against unauthorised access, use, modification, and disclosure of the personal information collected.

Transmission of the data over the internet or wireless network is a separate matter though, and we cannot  guarantee that it will be secure and private.  While we do our best to protect your personal information when it is with us, unfortunately:

When you unsubscribe to our email alerts, your details will be retained but no longer active.

You can manually disable cookies at any time (check your browser’s ‘Help’ to find out how).  Disabling cookies will not affect your ability simply to view the website.

We will only retain personal information as long as it is required for the purposes for which the information may lawfully be used.  Where any information provided (which may include personal information) to, or through, this site constitutes public records, it will be retained to the extent required by the Public Records Act 2005.  Other than that, it will be deleted.

Data breach

If there is unauthorised or accidental access to, or disclosure, alteration, loss or destruction of your personal information that causes serious harm or is likely to do so, a Trustee from The Theatreview Trust will notify you, any other people affected and the Privacy Commissioner.
