We’re young, brown and female. That makes us a triple minority and it means we’re gonna give you a fresh perspective on life and your everyday problems. We’ve squashed a lifetime of shady characters, backhanded compliments and awkward encounters into one show.

Plus all the fun stuff – girl talk, snap chats, #instahastags, institutionalized racism and the Kardashians. So come along and see what it’s like at the bottom of the food chain. You’re going to laugh your socks off… or jandals, if that’s your style. Chur to the bradas #getitgirl

Home-grown female talents bring it

Review by Aminata Hamadi 25th Apr 2015

A funny yet stimulating show – is that combination even legal? It is indeed possible, and the dynamic duo of Kolopa Simei-Barton and Denyce Su’a manages to deliver it with style and finesse in their show Get It Girl. These girls aren’t afraid to say it like it is and they bring a creative and intelligent offering to this year’s Comedy Festival.

You’ll appreciate the down to earth tone and the humour found in honest everyday conversations. The animated duo’s stage movements are full of energy adding to the lively and engaging atmosphere.

They tackle everything from pop culture and Kim Kardarshian’s curves, to recent current affairs, including John Key’s newfound fascination with ponytails. The transition between scenes is smoothly navigated, don’t blink or you’ll miss it. They’ll take you from the club, to the gym, to the classroom and even through the mind of what a girl is thinking.

Simei-Barton and Su’a bring a myriad of characters to life. Like that gym guy you’re always checking out or that proud mum that embarrasses their kid at every social event. They wittily flip social and cultural stereotypes into fascinating comedy.

The audience soaks up what the pair dishes out and a hearty sprinkling of laughter echoes across the room at various times throughout the show. They’ll keep you captivated even when talking about something as serious as institutionalised racism.

Though taking the spotlight on a small stage and in an intimate setting, Kolopa Simei-Barton and Denyce Su’a will certainly bring it and, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll get it!

It’s refreshing to see upcoming home-grown female talent take the stage and own it!
