Tameka Sowman grew up in Sunny Nelson and is a Niuean Acting Graduate of Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School.  She has since worked in various facets of the industry, and has primarily been involved in youth resilience and social development projects throughout NZ and the South Pacific including Matanui with Theatreworks and the Northland DHB, and attending a United Nations Small Islands Development Summit in Samoa with the The Conch’s project, Stages of Change.

She has toured with The Conch with their show Masi, and the development phases of the all female, Marama. Most recently she has collaborated closely with Nathaniel Lees in Fale Sa, where she attended the 12th Pacific Artists Festival in Guahan as an NZ Pacific Delegate.

Tameka specialises in Physical Theatre. She is trained in Object Animation and Stage Illusion, with British Illusionist Paul Kieve, Nina Nawalowalo and Tom McCrory. She studied Prop construction under Master puppeteer, Rebekah Wild, and is a Special Effects Artist with a Diploma in Production Design and Sculpture.
