WELLINGTON, NZ. Hold your hats and grab your boots, Comedy Gold is takin’ you to the West – the Wild Wild West. The creators behind When Booty Calls (BATS Theatre, 2021) and When Booty Calls – The Rebooty (NZ Fringe Festival, 2022, BATS Theatre, 2022), make their return to BATS Theatre this October to debut their newest show Cocked and Loaded.

Cocked and Loaded is the latest action-comedy-romance from Comedy Gold featuring their trademark fight choreography, physical comedy and visual and audio gags. Inspired by the ‘thistownaintbigenoughforthetwoofus’ Western genre, this show brings us the best of cowboys, playing into their tropes while also aiming to subvert them.

Emma Maguire, Theatreview 2022, writes of her experience of their recent showing of When Booty Calls: “I adore shows that go beyond the bounds of traditional comedy in their creation, and find hilarity in the most wild of places. This show is a fantastic example of that.” Rest assured that this new show goes beyond the same bounds with fresh jokes, new tricks and the same gold slapstick.

Cocked and Loaded is devised by Nina Hogg, Troy Etherington, Phoebe Caldeiro and Ashton Marla, and is directed by Austin Harrison. They aim to keep Comedy Gold’s ethos of “‘creating good old fashioned comedy without any of those pesky ‘morals’ or ‘deeper meanings’” within this performance.

Austin Harrison, Cocked and Loaded Director, explains “It’s a real pleasure to be invited along on the journey for Cocked and Loaded. The Comedy Gold team have put together a hilarious script and I’m looking forward to taking what they already have – an infectious energy and killer comedic instinct – and bringing the audience right into the experience for our debut season!”
