Briar Wilson became a lawyer in 1974 once all her sons were in school, and ended her practice very recently. Now semi-retired, she started dance classes in 1980 and continues today with Megan Adams group.  In 1988 she became more involved with dance as a trustee for Danceworks and then Limbs (in its final year).  Later she was a director of DANZ. She started and/or coordinated various dance associations, including the Northern Dance Network, and also recorded interviews with some choreographers talking about their pieces. From 1993 to 1998, she edited and produced a small bimonthly called DanceNet (writing 95% of the text) that aimed at relevance for all types of dance and achieved some 200 paying subscribers from all parts of New Zealand.  It was taken over by DANZ as one of the foundations for its quarterly magazine. Briar has wriiten regular performance reviews for DANZ Magazine and Theatreview, and has attended writing seminars (led by Stephanie Jordan, Raewyn Whyte, Joan Acocella) to better understand the issues.
