Trouble in Tahiti – New Zealand productions?

John Parker posted 18 Jun 2006, 04:48 PM

I posted this over at the New Zealand Opera Society website, with no responses, so perhaps someone here may be able to help:

“I am working on a production of the Leonard Bernstein opera ‘Trouble in Tahiti’ for the Wellington Fringe Festival 2007, and I would like to know if anyone is aware of any other New Zealand productions of this opera?

It would be nice to be presenting a New Zealand premiere of the work, but I expect it has been done at some point.

Many thanks in advance.

Yours sincerely

John Parker”

In response to your question one of my colleagues contacted Sally Sloman the Director of Opera Factory in Auckland who explained that they actually started work on this late last year for a short fringe season double bill however due to casting difficulties had to defer it until later in their annual programme. Sally also suggested checking with Victoria University to see whether they have ever done it at any stage.

Thanks Helaina, that’s really appreciated.
