CENTREPOINT THEATRE DESIGN INTERNSHIP   

DESCRIPTION:  
In 2008 Centrepoint Theatre is offering a design internship to a new design graduate or emerging designer.  The Design Internship will run from February 2008 to May 2008 – a four month period – and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to design set and costumes for the following productions: 

The Man of La Mancha by Dale Wassermen, Joe Darion & Mitch Leigh 
Season: 29 March – 3 May 2008

The Pillowman by Martin McDonogh 
Season: 10 May – 07 June 2008 

The Gods of Warm Beer  by Peter Hawes 
Season: 14 June – 26 July 2008 

BENEFITS:
The successful  candidate will gain the experience of working on three very diverse productions,  with the opportunity to build up their portfolio early in their career.

The successful candidate will receive remuneration from Centrepoint Theatre over the four-month period. In addition, Centrepoint Theatre will also offer the intern accommodation during their stay in Palmerston North and a contribution to their travel costs in moving to Palmerston North.  

In addition to support from the Centrepoint team, the theatre feels that it is important to provide the successful candidate with mentoring from a professional within the industry’s design field.  An agreed mentor will be selected by the intern and Centrepoint Theatre and will be available at certain times to spend time with the design intern at the theatre, and also be available to the intern by phone and email as required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant will be a recent graduate of a recognised design course, or an emerging designer who can demonstrate a level of competence required to work in a professional theatre setting.

We are looking for someone who is bright, organized, eager and keen to learn and work both independently and within a team environment. 

Designers will be asked to apply for this internship by 2 November 2007.  Applications will be short-listed, interviewed and assessed by a panel of industry professionals.
