AUDITIONS – SMACKBANG THEATRE – RAISING THE TITANICS by Albert Belz, directed by Raymond Hawthorn

SmackBang needs three professional actresses to complete the cast of its 2010 commissioned play.

Raising the Titanics is the story of a famous (fictitious) Maori Showband of the 60s and early 70s.  It reveals the truth about what really sunk the Titanics and whether they can be raised for a comeback reunion tour.

Raymond Hawthorn will be directing and we have already cast the 3 Male characters . Our Male cast consists of Tama Waipara, Fran Kora and Wesley Dowdell.

We are looking to cast the 3 female roles in this exciting new entertainment extravaganza.

Tiane TipeneMid 20s/ Late 60s (Maori)

Must play older convincingly as well as being able to switch to a younger more vibrant self.

Tiane is passionate about her music and determined to be taken seriously as a vocalist and not just as another ‘exotic P.I princess’ with a beautiful voice.  She loves Louis, but is sometimes too focused on her career to acknowledge the hard work he’s putting in to ensure her progress.  Still, the two of them make a great team.  Both have a good head on their shoulders and Tiane is full of talent.  Tiane looks forward to the day Louis asks for her hand in marriage.

When we meet Tiane in present day, she is still with Louis and unmarried.  She helps him run the Devine Karaoke bar in South Auckland.

Marea Andrews, nee Reka – Late teens early 20s/ Early 60s (Maori or Pakeha)

Must play older convincingly as well as being able to switch to a younger more vibrant self.

Marea is a drop dead gorgeous Diva with the voice of an angel.  She loves the thought of being in the Titanics, and looks forward to the day where she is rich and famous, travelling the world with a handsome beau like Zac carrying her luggage for her.

When we meet Marea in present day, she has married an Australian pilot who she met while returning from Vietnam after entertaining American troops with the Titanics.  She has several daughters and lives in an affluent part of Howick.

Aroha Devine 25-35 (Maori)
Aroha is the only child of Tiane Tipene and Louise Devine. She is a journalist who works for a local magazine like Metro. She has inherited her mother’s drive and her father’s ‘dodgey-ness’ when it comes to getting the story. However the story she wants now, is that of the Maori Titanics.
