TOP OF THE SOUTH ARTS TOURING CONSORTIUM

September 2010

The Ashburton Events Centre, Marlborough Civic Theatre, Nelson School of Music and the Theatre Royal Nelson are delighted to announce their new partnership – the Top of the South Arts Touring Consortium through successful funding from Creative New Zealand.

The newly formed consortium has achieved Regional Presenter and Audience Development Funding of up to $400,000 over a 3 year period. A further allocation of up to $33,000 per annum is also offered to develop and deliver an agreed audience development plan for each region.

This funding allows the consortium to arrange and tour quality New Zealand arts.  This stimulates each venue creatively and fosters growth within our sector through opportunities to work with artists of the highest quality from around New Zealand.

The formation of the touring consortium provides an opportunity to showcase high quality, professional New Zealand artists and companies – many of whom would only have been seen in the main centres.

The Top of the South Arts Touring Consortium applauds the Creative New Zealand funding initiative as it recognises the venues need for collaboration and to grow a greater understanding of their audience.  Working together on this project demonstrates a healthy relationship between significant regional performing arts venues.  We wish to thank Creative NZ for providing us with the funding for developing a vibrant arts culture for the top of the South Island.

The Consortium will be looking for proposals from professional New Zealand artists for the 2011-2013 periods, across all performing arts genres.
