EMERGING ARTISTS TRUST (EAT) SCREENWRITERS AND ACTORS WORKSHOP

ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT WRITING AND ACTING FOR THE SCREEN?

The Emerging Artists Trust is running an intensive workshop for screenwriters and actors.

16 writers and 10 actors will meet for 3 hours a week in a process that will dramatically improve their storytelling craft, analytical skills, and ability to work successfully within our highly collaborative industry.

Meetings work in a round-robin fashion. On the Friday before each session, four writers will deliver 20-25 pages of screenplay to the actors. During the Tuesday sessions, the actors will perform the work as a table reading.

After each reading, the group will offer feedback and constructive criticism moderated by Steve Barr, a screenwriter living in New Zealand after 16 years in the Hollywood industry. Over the 19 week period writers will write and workshop an entire feature screenplay.

The benefits of this format are many, including:

  • Screenwriters will hear their work “on its feet” and develop their analytical tools and the skills and the mindset necessary to constructively give and receive criticism.
  • Actors will hone their technique across a wide array of characters and genres, and see in practice how their performance decisions affect an ongoing narrative.

The workshop is free but both actors and writers must be willing to commit to 19 weeks of meetings, 6.30-9.30pm every Tuesday.
