Cost: $150+gst
TAPAC, Western Springs, Auckland

Limited to 18 places. Enrol no later than Thurs 26 September.

Sam Scott, MNZM, Founder and Artistic Director of the highly acclaimed Massive Company, will be leading a one day Master class on loving to pretend as an actor and sharing why she thinks this is a vital quality in an actor.

Sam has been working as a director and tutor for 28 years and was recently awarded a MNZM for her services to Theatre. Sam has worked in film, television and theatre… but Theatre is her passion and she has developed and trained many of NZ’s leading performers.

This Master class will be for actors, directors or theatre practitioners. It is for anyone aged 18 + . It is for those who would like to explore how to achieve a dynamic and vibrant state on stage.

“I believe that actors need to always have a sense of play when they are on stage. We, the audience, want to watch the actor who is “loving to pretend” on stage, who has a great spirit in their work, a great “life”. We, the audience, are drawn to this person on stage”.

Sam Scott, MNZM.

The Master class will focus on skills and techniques Sam uses throughout her work as director and tutor both nationally and internationally and which is at the heart of Massive Company’s work.

The Master class will work on:

  • Le Jeu/ The Game and loving to pretend on stage.
  • Connection between actors and between, actors and audience, and how this brings sustained life to the actors’ performance in live theatre.
  • Ensemble building work…how to listen, sense and work with and off other actors.
  • Participants will work to make some devised work so as to put into action some of the skills they have worked with earlier in the day.

The workshop will be playful, fun, physical and the best kind of challenging.
