THE WELLINGTON THEATRE AWARDS 2017

The Wellington Theatre Awards are approaching and YOU are cordially invited to the theatre arts industry event of the year on the evening of Sunday 10 December at St James Theatre.

This year the Wellington Theatre Awards celebrates its 25th anniversary of honouring the elite of Wellington’s theatre talent. Join us to celebrate and acknowledge the brightest stars from Wellington’s finest actors, directors, producers, writers, designers, technicians and theatre affiliates – and to dance the night away in style!

We are celebrating theatrical excellence this year with a Brilliance Behind The Scenes themed ceremony at the iconic St James Theatre. Enjoy an evening from the performer’s point-of-view on the epic St James stage for a night of backstage celebrations with a glamour-focused dress code in your best dress or most smokin’ suit.

Back by popular demand, our event MC is theatre stalwart and hilarious gent James Nokise, and the official 2017 nominees will be announced in the week of Nov 20 – 24 after consideration from our 11 judges.

The Wellington Theatre Awards

The annual Wellington Theatre Awards honour this country’s best on and off stage talent.

Established in 1992, the prestigious awards are a highlight of Wellington’s art and social calendar. Every year, the Theatre Awards Trust has hosted this awards evening to help bring this diverse community together; to foster theatre and the development of arts in Wellington; to publicly identify and recognise the winners, to the benefit of their careers; and most importantly, to boost the theatre community’s identity and spirit.

This annual presentation also recognises lifelong contribution to the arts with the Mayoral Award for Significant Contribution to Theatre.

An opportunity for forging new partnerships and links across the theatre community, its sponsors, audience and publicists; the Awards encourage diversity in collaboration, for the benefit of the wider Wellington (and national) audience in the forthcoming year.

The Theatre Awards Trust are grateful for the support of our sponsors and major grants from the Jack Jeffs Charitable Trust, Lion Foundation, Wellington City Council and the Four Winds Foundation.

Come along to applaud the liveliness and strength that is the creative industry in Wellington.
