A tribute to Laughton Pattrick

Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School

Kua hinga te tōtara i Te Waonui a Tāne. He aitua, he aitua.

Dear friend and colleague, Laughton Pattrick passed away yesterday. Laughton was our singing teacher at Toi Whakaari for many years and those taught by Laughton we credit him for giving us the confidence to sing “me he korokoro tui” – like the throat of a tui. For those who were natural singers, he was able to work magic to attain world class standards. Everyone was encouraged to join his classes and you’ll find many technical graduates in the industry who acknowledge Laughton’s mahi. He was a gentle soul (unless you mucked around in his class) and a true gentleman.

Kei te mihi aroha ki a koe e te rangatira, moe mai, okioki mai, aroha mai. E kore koe e wareware i a tātou.
