Sarah Knox (MCPA)

is a lecturer in Dance Studies at the University of Auckland. She currently teaches practice and theory including choreography, dance technique, professional practices, is responsible for a large proportion of the department’s performance programmes and international tours, and is involved in Postgraduate supervision. Sarah has published research including ‘Artists Narratives’ in the book Moving Oceans: Celebrating Dance in the South Pacific (co author Dr. Rosemary Martin, Editors Associate Professors Ralph Buck and Nicholas Rowe, Publisher: Routledge). Sarah holds a Master of Creative and Performing Arts where she explored professional contemporary dancers’ experiences of agency within choreographic collaboration. She is currently studying towards a doctorate investigating the acculturation of creativity in choreographic education at tertiary level. Sarah trained at the New Zealand School of Dance and has performed with Black Grace, Footnote New Zealand Dance and has worked extensively as a freelance artist since 2002. She is also a dance-maker and has created works for the New Zealand Fringe Festival (2010, 2012), Tempo (2015), Footnote New Zealand Dance (2008, 2010, 2016), University of Auckland (2016) and Dance Nucleus (Singapore, 2016).. She began reviewing for Theatreview in 2015.
