Students’ ambitious show pokes fun at the great unknown

You only get one afterlife, so why not grab the abyss by the horns and make the most of it?

With chaos, collisions and playful conclusions, A Quiet Contemplation on the Life of Cyrus Kans (7.00pm & 8.30pm April 16-18) kicks off this year’s season of shows at Te Auaha – The NZ Institute of Creativity.

An original and rambunctious devised work, Cyrus Kans invites audiences to join the company on a unique, unsettling and ultimately uplifting journey that explores the uneasy spaces between what we know and what we believe.  With strictly limited spaces ensuring an intimate and immersive audience experience, book now for Cyrus Kans and prepare to question everything except uncertainty.

Devised entirely by the school’s third-year Stage & Screen students, A Quiet Contemplation on the Life of Cyrus Kans was created as part of the company’s investigation of processional theatre, an immersive presentation form that uses light, shadow, sound and physicality to drive the audience’s journey through different spaces as part of the performance. During Cyrus Kans, you’ll play with a gaggle of spirit hosts on a fanciful promenade of the afterlife. As the company welcomes you into the unfolding action, you’ll see your choices, fears and beliefs reflected and transformed into a unique theatrical conversation that pokes fun at the great unknown.
