Wellington’s professional musicians and dancers collide, meet and improvise to bring dance and music to the Wellington Cable Car. Five duets will take place on, in and around the Cable Car during the festival. These Metamorphosis artists came together through 101 improvisations over Zoom during Lockdown and now they burst into real life in your city.

Bridget Kelly plays clarinet, flute and saxophone in many ensembles such as The Troubles, Dreamville, Bazurka, Balkanistas, Village of the Idiots, Mean Bones, to name but a few more of the more recent ensembles.

Kia graduated from the NZSD in 2018. During her time at NZSD she performed in works by Damien Jalet and Lauren Langlois and premiered by own work ‘beam’ in the 2018 Choreographic Season. In September 2019 Kia moved to Brussels and took up a place at P.A.R.T.S, the school of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker before returning to NZ during the Pandemic.

Soprano Barbara Paterson has sung for Stroma, the CANZ annual Nelson workshops, Wanderlust Theatre, NZ Opera, the Audio Foundation, the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, Unstuck Opera, Eternity Opera, NIMBY Opera, CubaDupa, and as a soloist for choral societies around NZ.

Anita Hutchins is a dancer, teacher, choreographer and creator of dance. She returned to New Zealand after a decade of dancing with companies in Europe. Anita was a member of the Bayerisches Staatsballett Munchen, Netherlands Dans Theater II, The Royal New Zealand Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre.

Rachelle Eastwood is one of New Zealand’s most versatile flutists.  Rachelle graduated from Massey University with a Bachelors of Music in classical performance flute. Rachelle has played with some of New Zealand’s top Jazz musicians including John Rae and the Troubles and Jonathan Crayford. 

Christina Guieb is a freelance contemporary dancer born and based in Wellington. She recently worked with Nagelhus Schia Productions in their work DuEls by Damien Jalet and Erna Ómarsdóttir. She has performed and collaborated with artists such as Ross McCormack, Chunky Move, New Zealand Dance Company and Java Dance Theatre.

Jake Baxendale is a freelance musician and composer based in Wellington, New Zealand. His work with jazz groups The Jac and Antipodes has toured throughout Aotearoa/NZ, Australia and South Korea, and has been nominated for several APRA and Vodafone music awards. He curates the Arthur Street Loft Orchestra concert series, and is the founder of the professional association Jazz Aotearoa. Jake was recently announced as a finalist in the 2020 APRA awards for best Jazz composition. 

Eliza Sanders is a multi-award winning choreographer, dancer and educator. She is co-artistic director of contemporary performance company House of Sand for whom she has created and/ or performed in 11 shows since 2015. Eliza has worked for Footnote, NZSD, WOW Arts, Body Cartography, The Australian Dance Party, Little Dove TheatreArt and is a certified Counter technique teacher. 

Ruby Solly is a Kai Tahu musician, taonga puoro practitioner, music therapist and writer living in Wellington. She has played with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Whirimako Black, Trinity Roots, and The New Zealand String Quartet as both a cellist, and a player of traditional Māori instruments (ngā taonga puoro).

Björn Åslund is a multidisciplinary freelance performer and dancer, based in Wellington. A 2019 graduate from the New Zealand School of Dance, they have worked with Legs on the Wall and the Ballet Collective Aotearoa. As well as creating their own work for the 2020 Fringe Festival as part of the Toi Poneke Dance Residency triple bill “Situations in Play” in which they created “Plato’s Atlantis” a duet with Barbara Paterson. They regularly work in the cabaret scene as their drag persona The Ever Changing Boy, and collaborate with the Wellington Drawing school.
