Corpus'(by Jillian), Latin for ‘body’, is a solo show combining contemporary dance, theatre, projection, and “cirque-esque” props.  The story stems from a personal experience of mental illness in America but is disguised by a meta-story of cultural ills. It addresses the insurmountable ideals of religion, patriotism, art, and education: monstrous machines that guide and inspire but also punish and confound. These are heavy issues, but “Corpus” responds to them with quirkiness, a bit of humour and yes, a good dose of darkness.

‘A Day Like Any Other Day’ (by Aaron) incorporates experimental circus apparatus and a giant black dog puppet alongside more traditional circus apparatus. It deals with a range of current issues (from Guantanamo Bay, to the ‘Arctic 30’, to Bradley Manning) in a darkly comedic manner. “It’s an exploration of being alone and being imprisoned.” Aaron says. “It’s my way of looking at what it means to be free, and how sometimes a torturous situation can be kept at bay and twisted to one’s favour.” The show aims to take circus away from the big-top, away from the glitz and glamour normally associated with it, and replace it with emotion and story more commonly associated with theatre.
