STRASSMAN IS BACK IN AN HILARIOUS, BRAND NEW SHOW!

“Absolute Genius!” –The List, Edinburgh

International comedy star David Strassman returns to New Zealand with his brand new show, CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.  Chuck Wood’s sharp-tongued, caustic, sarcastic humour might have been cracking up audiences for years, but this show is an even funnier, darker, all-new creation from the dark and twisted mind of David Strassman.

Strassman tours to 19 centres from Kerikeri to Invercargill from 5 November 2013. Tickets are now on sale.

Strassman’s new show truly ventures down the rabbit hole. Alternate realities? Parallel universes? It’s a mind-bending journey into a world where nothing is as it seems.

Strassman returns to New Zealand after a hit season at the Edinburgh Fringe with the dark psychological comedy DUALITY. The show was a sensation in Edinburgh, with The Mirror giving it 5 stars, calling it “A fabulous achievement…mind blowing”. Chortle.co. uk called it “supremely clever… faultlessly performed”.  The List said “Absolute genius. The writing is truly superb and the performance – or should that be performances? – breath-taking in linguistic and ventriloquistic dexterity.  Takes the ancient art of ventriloquism up several notches.”

Considered by many to be the best ventriloquist in the world, Strassman’s shows are hilariously funny and razor sharp, featuring full stage production complete with dazzling sets and state-of-the-art theatrical effects. His shows involve multiple characters and high-tech puppetronics (robotics) that bring his characters to life, even when he has left the stage.

This performance is rated MA 15+. Children 12 to 15 years must be accompanied by parents or guardian. No one under 12 years admitted.

The inmates take over the asylum

Review by Liza Kire 14th Nov 2013

New Zealand’s favourite ventriloquist David Strassman is currently touring the country with his new show titled Careful What You Wish For

New Zealand hasn’t seen Strassman in some time however he provides an amazingly hilarious show with all your favourite characters, especially Chuck Wood and Ted E Bare. He is definitely taking the art of ventriloquism to the next level and proving that it is a lot harder than it actually looks.

His show has incorporated big screens and flashing lights that add an unreal depth to his performance. Strassman is so good at what he does that sooner or later you forget that it really is a one man show. You start to see each puppet for the character that they are.

After deciding that it may be time he gave up being a ventriloquist, he starts to argue with Chuck who becomes upset that if Strassman gives up, then ultimately all the puppets die and are bound to museums or being confined to suitcase for the rest of eternity. The show reflects a lot of Strassman’s inner demons and takes him to an alternate universe after he wishes that he never had his puppets.

The rivalry between Ted E Bare and Chuck still exists and it reminds you of why you fell in love with them in the first place. Ted E Bare is still the most adorable dog-looking teddy bear anyone will ever come across and Chuck is still sarcastic and as witty as ever before.

Other puppets such as Grandpa Fred and Kevin the alien or even Sid the beaver will leave you in stitches by the time you want to leave. Strassman’s talent for ad libs and his comedic timing has the entire theatre constantly laughing throughout the entire show.

His ability to have a conversation with four or five different puppets, and being himself on top of that, proves that he may just be the best that there is. It would be enough to drive me insane trying to learn a script with so many roles in it but Strassman makes it flow so easily and keeps differentiation between each character.

His puppets have even evolved and aren’t the same as we’re used to. He has upgraded them so they can now work by themselves. The robotics are astounding and at times Strassman isn’t even on the stage and it seems bizarre to think that a puppet can command the attention of Founders Theatre by itself. He even provides a few demonstrations of the capability they now possess.

It’s almost like Strassman has allowed his puppets to take over the shows he performs so if in the event something happened to him, they can still live on and carry on his hilarious legacy.

This is definitely a must see show that will leave your comedy taste buds 100% satisfied.
