Funny, sassy, sexy

Review by Candice Lewis 10th May 2017

Donna (Snort, Funny Girls) Brookbank’s one woman show starts with a lot of physical comedy, references to being a drama student, and wry expressions. Although the audience is giggling, the drawn out opening gags aren’t moving me (spinster on a spinning wheel anyone?).

Fortunately these give way to Brookbank’s natural story-telling skills which revolve around being single (she’s only 33) and she hits her stride. She is warm, quirky and indignant as she talks about the expectations of society and family – her Nanna in particular.

Although there are a few mentions of the cat, we are the ones purring. I am smiling or laughing throughout, charmed by her silliness. I laugh a lot and very loudly at times when others don’t, perhaps over-identifying with some of the content.

She’s a funny, sassy, sexy young woman and her Nanna would be proud.
