FUNERALS, ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION COME TOGETHER IN A COMIC EXTRAVANGAZA OF WEIRDNESS

When is the best season to commit a murder? What is the best poem to read at your loved one’s funeral? And where do you draw the line between following Jesus and stalking him? These questions and more will be explored in Funerals and Fecal Matter, playing from February 20th as part of Auckland Fringe 2013.

Funerals and Fecal Matter is a stand-up show with something for everyone; if you are interested in the food Moses ate while wandering the desert, there’s a joke about that. If you are fascinated by the finer points of living rooms, there’s a joke about that. If the murder of kittens is what gets you up in the morning, unfortunately there isn’t a joke about that.

Jayran offers her sincerest apologies. You will just have to settle for a one liner about erectile dysfunction encased in a fine confection of a constipation joke.

Jayran grew up in a very conservative Iranian family, where her parents expected her to become a lawyer, an engineer or, as a last resort, a gynaecologist. But instead she decided to go into stand-up comedy in 2009 aged 16. Ever since, she has been taking the mundane minutiae of everyday life and spinning it into absurdist comedy.

While the other kids in high school were going out to parties, going to the movies with friends, and in general having social lives, Jayran was pondering the finer points of old sayings, searching Google Maps for odd-sounding place names, and watching reality TV shows wondering what would happen if there was a reality TV show where the Kardashians had to survive daily life in the Soviet Union.

After seeing Jayran, you may never look at a world map the same way again.

Auckland Fringe runs from 15 February to 10 March 2013. For more Auckland Fringe information go to www.aucklandfringe.co.nz
