Centrepoint, Palmerston North

13/03/2010 - 27/03/2010

Production Details

Celebrating Hollywood bombshells, divas of jazz, country, soul, and pop all with one thing in common…

Highlights is a sassy salute to some of the great vocalists and personalities of our time.

The hits and humour of these golden girls of stage and screen are showcased by singer and actress Georgia Wood as she recalls their famous quips and interprets the much-loved songs that helped make these women superstars.

Come up and see Mae, take a sentimental journey with Doris, get the fever from Peggy, and pop out with Madonna. Tour Planet Blonde with Georgia and rediscover the iconic blondes and their classic songs.

Georgia Wood is an Auckland based vocalist who has worked internationally in musical theatre and jazz, and now her own one woman cabaret show. She is a blonde.

"As a blonde I have definitely been shaped by the global icons that I celebrate in this show. I’ve chosen to highlight the best of them, the best songs they sing and the best of blondness. We all need silliness and wonderment in our life so it’s blondness as a metaphor for joy, mirth and lightness.

“It’s also about freedom of expression…the choice to be blonde that these women made for me is about self determination and self realisation.

“That said the show is pretty light and fluffy stuff really, with lots of humour. In my research for the show I discovered that a lot of these women are really funny… their wit is another facet I wanted to celebrate. I’m all for providing a great night out in a live cabaret setting ….

“I just want people to relax in the hands of an experienced entertainer, find their inner blonde, have a giggle and a  groove  as I sing some classic (blonde!) songs" says Georgia Wood.

Good show

Review by John C Ross 15th Mar 2010

If you seriously love pop, and the singers who sing it, you’ll love this show. Georgia Wood is impersonating a string of famous females, from Mae West to Madonna, either born blonde or with blondeness thrust upon them. It’s an hour’s-worth of songs along with a bit of patter.

It’s quite well done, and well supported by the music, lighting and set-design. Georgia sings well, moves well, relates to the audience effectively. Good for her.

Not being competent to judge the accuracy of her impersonations of Dolly Parton or Dusty Springfield or the blonde Abba, I can’t say much more.
